Unless Culpepper restructures his contract, i don't think he will be allowed to participate in the mini or training camps. We can't afford for him to get hurt. So, will he restucture his contract?

He has to feel right now, that if the Dolphins trade or release him, the next team he plays for is going to ask that he reduce his salary. He's also got to feel, that he's probably going to be a back-up. I say that because most teams have a starting Qb. And Vick's not getting suspended this year. So rule that out. It will be at least 8mo. to a year to get a conviction.

Green doesn't have the best track record when it comes to injury. If C-Pep stayed he might get a chance later in the season. Although i hope Green starts every game this year. So what do you think? Will Culpepper give Cam and Mueller the chance to retain his services?

And how do you suppose he does that? It's not as easy as just saying he should restructure. The previous contract doesn't get voided and a new, cheaper one created.

Daunte already restructured when he came to Miami. The Dolphins would be stupid to restructure, by which they'd have to extend it for a QB who's last two years have been spent recovering from knee problems/surgeries.

you have to think about the worst possible QB scenario for us tho. And thats having Green start and either not produce at all or get hurt, so what happens then? Throw Beck in already? Id love to have a healthy Pepper waiting if the worst happens to Green.

We understand that point. In a perfect world that could happen.

The salaries don't make sense. They cannot keep Culpepper at his 5.5 million and take on Green's new contract (which John Clayton has reported at 3 years worth 4 to 5 million per). That makes no financial sense in a season where we're beginning our retooling. You also can't have two players like that who want to start now existing in the locker room. It complicates the environment and the allegiances. It would naturally create a divided lockeroom. We all love this "it's an open competition" talk, but be honest here. How can we get anyone really acclimated with the rest of the guys on offense if they're having a heated battled fueled by what would be QB controversy speculation? That's a distraction this team doesn't need.

Realisticly it wont happen im just sayin itd be nice. At the least Id love to trade Culpepper for something thatd help us out such as a starting offensive lineman.

Getting a starting O-liner ain't going to happen. We'll be lucky to get a 7th. But he'll probably get released before that happens. It's obvious he not involved in Cam's game plan. But i wonder if he'll ever be a starter again? I do agree with you Transcendental about it being a distraction. It probably is better to part ways and move on.

It's just not realistic scenario. We already saw Daunte's reaction to Saban when he was told he wouldn't be playing and Joey was going to be inserted. Daunte's also spent alot of time rehabbing and it's clear as day the dude wants to start, along with his counterpart Trent Green. It would be different if we were talking about a young guy coming up and a vet, but we're talking about two established veterans here.

Let me ask you this question. How should Daunte have reacted? How would you have reacted? Keep in mind all the hard work, even forgoing your rehab, to get back on the playing field and proving all your naysayers wrong only to see it all come crashing down.

Daunte thinks (no, he knows) he's a great QB when he's healthy. He's going to want an oppertunity to be a big time starting QB in the league again and in what way can any one see that happening here? I don't care what Cam's saying, Trent is our opening day QB this year and it's Beck's team in the future. Daunte should be looking at Jacksonville and press real hard to get there.

Cpep doesn't have a track record of injury either ??? He's had the knee and that's it for 8 years...Green's had his knee (which he sat a season for) and the concussion. The risk with Green is that severe concussions are like rotten eggs...you just can't get rid of the stench unless you toss them...Yes, he's been cleared medically, but the NFL has a poor track record of treating concussions and there is doubt about how they affect players. Once a severe concussion is suffered, the player becomes much more likely to have them reoccur. That is a proven fact, not conjecture....Will that happen to Green...who knows ??

As to the contract, from what has come out from Cpep, now that he feels he's healthy again and his confidence in his ability, I highly doubt that he'll restructure knowing he'll be second fiddle to Green here. He may go to some other team and be second fiddle, but not here...Green is the coaches' boy so expect him to start. And if Cpep is traded/cut, then that certainly will be a 4th rounder we've given up...

At any rate, Cam has what he's wanted and now has to make it happen. The QB situation here is resolved with one phone call to Carl...At least he's beaten out Saban and Speilman who gave up 2nd rounders for guys who couldn't play for us...

He THINKS he knows, he thinks he's a big time QB when healthy- he's wrong.

If I remember reading on the front page that he was cleared to practice.

Very Very Interesting that he is cleared to practice right after they fins aquire Green.

Because of that the FO can release him and not have any injury grievance...... Might just be the plan

If both Culpepper and Green's contracts are incentive driven, there's a fair competition for the starting role, a nice thing, but perhaps that would be too much for Daunte's ego.
I'll respect Daunte if he choose to stay, but can't bet on it.

Actually he received clearance either late Monday or early Tuesday before the trade was announced. Either way, the timing of the trade is rather suspicious.
