Dont know if this has been discussed but has it been said that daunte will be healthy enough to take snaps in the preseason or atleast play a half?..i hope so,give him and chambers more time to work together..

I know this won't be what people want to hear, but I think Daunte should take his time and get as healthy as possible. If that means sitting out half a season, so be it. I would rather he takes longer to come back then to come back too soon. I want to see Daunte under center as bad as anyone here, but we haven't had a QB this good in a while. I don't want to see that wasted by rushing back to play before he's healed enough.

Probably has been discussed but perhaps I could see 1 or 2 quarters in the very last pre-season game because if the team wants the knee healthy, playing in the pre-season games won't help it that much plus all those defenses might just go after it anyway in pre-season

i think if he goes throught the whole training camp with no problems and healthy we will see him in the preseason, but if he experiences any soreness we may not see him till sept.7 or later..

Well the word right now is that he is going to particpate at 100% in training camp. With that in mind, I see no reason why Daunte should hold back. Unless he suffers a setback during camp, he should get the regular time any QB would get in the pre-season. He needs snaps badly!

I wouldn't worry about over-working him. I'm sure Saban and the medical staff are monitoring everything. Anyone who saw him during OTAs should know that he will particopate in all of TC and the preseason games.

i think he has to play a little bit in the preseason just to get his timing down...but i'm sure they'll be cautious with him...

Would be REALLY sad to see if...teams DELIBERATELY went after the knee.

Face it - those things happen. Does anyone believe the hit on Carson Palmer was even the least bit intentional? I'm not saying it was, mind you. But...it'll only take one 'bad block' or accidental hit where a DL or DE is falling toward Daunte, hits the wrong area in the wrong way, and that, as they say, is that. Does anyone know if there are penalties/consequences for a player who 'goes after' a QB when in a vulnerable position? Can the referee determine whether certain hits are 'late' or malicious based on their location?

No amount of conservatism on the part of coaching staff will help in this case, unfortunately. Hopefully the brace on his knee will assist in lessening the severity of any hit the knee takes.

I guess we'll see...go get 'em, Daunte!! And, GO FINS!!!

I think it's something that will keep Saban up nights, the decision to use him or not. The appearances are that he'll be healthy enough to get a couple of quarters in, but it only takes one play to set him back. Just how far along he really is will become crystal clear in camp though. Does Saban risk the rest of the season or the first 4-5 games by putting him in ?? I surely wouldn't want to be making that decision. I still say that if he starts week one, it will be nothing short of amazing, given the extent of the damage...

I think you are gravely mistaken, Any single players career could be ended on any particular play from Zach to olindo, to DC. A coach will prepare his player mentaly and physically and let there execution and athleticism help them prevent injury.

Last years Phins Falcons preseason, Vick played one series and was so far away from the action by the end of the play it was halarious. If anything that would be the case with daunte, hand off and run/jog away from players !

Saban will put his players in a psition to succeed, thats what he's famous for. If daunte risks failure, then he rides the pine untill the concensus is that he will have great success.

Barring any knee complications during TC, I think it would be flat out crazy NOT to give PEP some preseason snaps.
