Saw this article on Sporting Charts that pertains to the Dolphins current situation. Lists other teams in the same situation over the last 10 years and the final results after changing coaches.

"It is quite logical that if a team fires its coach with the season in progress, there must be something really wrong with the team. However, the reinforcements haven´t been a true solution, either. Out of the 16 cases on this list, only two coaches were able to enter as interims, remain as full-time coaches, and make the postseason"

You can read the full article here, odds are not in our favor but the task is not impossible.

We won't benefit from it in the form of salvaging this season or anything. We are and will be a dumpster fire this year. No sugar coating it. 6 wins would be a "success". What firing Philbin will do for us is give us a leg up on evaluating and back-channel negotiating with candidates.

In the 2 cases that were successful the interim coach was NOT able to take them to the playoffs that year. But they were retained and eventually got the team to the playoffs the following years. That is the success the article is talking about. Looks like nobody has had the magic in the same year as the firing.

I think it's rare to fire a coach this early. Also eventually it will happen that an interim coach will make the playoffs in the same season, just when and who. Of course I wouldn't bet on it lol

This firing occurred much earlier than usual. The team has talent, but it needs to be harnessed and focused. They have a better chance than usual because of the early change.

Not saying I really think we will make playoffs as that's a tall order for a someone from a Tight End coach to a Head Coach but there is a first for everything (post season same year). I do agree even if I don't think we will make it, we have better chance with a earlier change.

I'm still skeptical. Can't imagine this turning into a successful season. I would love the story line of Campbell becoming our real head coach, but it's a long shot and I don't want to get my hopes up again and be let down twice in one season.

Maybe we could pull it off. Roll into the playoffs with a new HC. Sign me up.
But it has all the odds against us. Very tough task.

To be honest this might get you to 6 and 10, 7 and 9 or 8 and 8. And watch hurt you draft chances to get an Elite player at a Position of need like DE.

I see it this way too. Or I fear this, I should say. I think we only have a chance if the roster talent is close to what we all thought during the preseason. But if it was all hype and no substance, then it's going to be a long year.

Define - 'Benefit'...

I think they will obviously benefit, does that mean they will go undefeated and win the Super Bowl, Hell no...

They will be more aggressive, and can better evaluate the players on the roster.

One of the biggest questions is, are they not able to evaluate their personnel or are they completely lacking in Quality control coaching?

They do not seem capable of game planning or executing the plays that are called.

Do the players lack the talent or are they so predictable that the opposing teams always know what is coming on both sides of the ball?

Plus it does seem like some of the players on defense have tanked the season. Wake is the guy that comes to mind. If his hamstring is so bad he should be healing NOT playing

It benefits us because we have alot more time to evaluate coaching candidates and to possibly have a plan in place on who is the next coach of the Miami Dolphins.

I would rather take our lumps now if need be with Campbell, than go nowhere with the dummies (Failbin and Coyle) who were getting us nowhere. We can see how Campbell runs the team and whether to keep him as HC or look elsewhere. We also can take a hard look at which players to keep and where we need to bring in help.

I don't know about the Dolphins, but I'm going to Greatly benefit from the firing!! I couldn't even stand to watch another game this season under Failbin. I hope now with the energy Campbell brings, I may be able to enjoy a game or two!!?

They will benefit because a change of culture had to happen. The players did not believe in Philbin and without belief there just will not be the effort necessary to win.
You can have all the 'Xs and Os' you want but it comes down to human beings responding (or not responding) to human beings.
Mistakes will still be made by both players and coaches, but they will not be mistakes caused by hesitation and timidity.
