On Monday, let’s take a look at Miami's franchise quarterback.

Player: QB Ryan Tannehill
2015 stats: 4,208 yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions
Projected over/under: 4,300 passing yards
Reason for hope: Tannehill has put up back-to-back 4,000-yard passing seasons under dire circumstances. His teams the past two years were average (8-8 in 2014) or below average (6-10 in 2015), but Tannehill continued to put up numbers. He also had poor pass protection, which is expected to improve with the addition of first-round pick Laremy Tunsil to go with Pro Bowlers Mike Pouncey and Branden Albert. New Dolphins head coach Adam Gase also has a proven reputation for getting the most out of his quarterbacks. Gase did wonders for Jay Cutler with the Bears last year and should help Tannehill play smarter and more efficient. Tannehill will have more freedom in Gase’s quarterback-friendly offense, which should lead to better overall play.
Reason for concern: Tannehill is coming off a down year where he won a career-low six games. His touchdowns (24), passer rating (88.7) and QBR (43.1) were all down from a year prior. Tannehill also struggled with third-down conversions and didn’t play well in fourth quarters, which have been problems throughout his career and a major reason for his 29-35 record as a starter. Also, learning a new offense is never easy. Tannehill is learning his third offense in five seasons, and there could be rough patches ahead.

that stat is meaningless. could be garbage time, and 270 yards a game is nothing

WTF are you talking about? 270 yards a game is meaningless? I guess all but 7 QBs in the NFL are worthless since only 7 starting QBs managed to average 270 yards or more a game the last two seasons.

now that they are letting the qb actually drive I'm gonna say he goes for a 3 to 1 td to int ratio and 30 plus tds...

needs 4 to 1 and 40 tds

Here's a quick list of how many seasons current/recent top QBs have thrown at a 4 to 1 ratio:

2 - P Manning
4 - Brady
4 - Rogers
0 - Roethlisberger
0 - Brees

Any more ridiculous assertions this fine Monday morning or are you going to stop with this one?

It is ludicrous to call the stat meaningless, but gross yardage does not imply efficiency. I grant that garbage time yardage does inflate the average number of yards for a QB losing a game, so it is fair to say that a QB that loses 10 games probably threw for additional gross yardage.

Under. Under 4k too.

So you expect him to regress to below what he's done the past two years, with a better receiving corps and a HC who actually coached offenses before? Your disdain is clouding your judgement.

Agree, with a tweak. Late game yardage by a QB who's team is losing by 2 points are NOT garbage yards. The D is going all out to prevent a score. A QB behind by 24 with 5 minutes left? Yeah, garbage. Nonetheless, very few (no?) QBs on perpetually losing teams are top 3 in the league in yardage. That's generally because their yardage in the first 50 minutes isn't very high. No QB gets to 3000 yards due to garbage time. You're right tough - yardage is only one measure.

I'm not about to debate a prediction. I will bet on it though.
