Some of you might remember Jeff Ireland telling the Miami media back on June 16th that he wanted the remaining draft picks under contract by July 1st. Well, here we are on June 29th, and only two days until July 1st. Phillip Merling, Chad Henne and Kendall Langford still remain under contract. Of course, there is no reason to believe that those three could be very close to signing on the dotted line, but will they all be signed up by Tuesday?

Obviously, Ireland didn't say they HAD to be signed by Tuesday, but he did go out of his way to say that was his goal. It would be very nice to have all our draft picks signed 25 days before training camp begins, but I have a feeling that these guys will not be locked up by the end of Tuesday(July 1st). What do you all think?

i don't see them all signed by tuesday with phillip being the hardest to sign due to him thinking he is first round material and wanting first rnd money.
the statement made by ireland was pure media talk and that goes for any gm..who wants to hear their gm say "we expect so and so to sit out and miss 3 or 4 weeks of training camp while we work out a deal." every gm "wants" all of their rooks signed by a certain point but rarely does that happen especially here in miami..how many times have we heard wayne say we don't want any holdouts yet ronnie held out,so did j.allen.
in due time im sure they will all be signed before the season starts but within 2 days is probly not going to happen.

Rember guys we are starting fresh of the bat here with new coaches n new management, who knows what can happen.. i think they will be signed

I don't think they will be signed, no. I think if this FO wants the players to buy into the change in attitude then everyone needs to do what they say they will do...period. I don't think it will be in the best interest of this team for the deadline to come and go unresolved. How can you ask the players to give their all if you can't do the same? There has been more then enough time since the draft to work out contract disputes and come to an agreement. Especially since the scale this year has been set. I think Ireland will have dropped the ball if they aren't signed by July 1st.

I voted no. I don't think it will get done since some of the other rookies have yet to sign and it being a weekend.

I say by July 4th........

Nah

I they'll all be signed before camp, but not by Tuesday. I think he may get one of them signed.

it should go for both sides though. im sure ireland has contracts for them set up but it is a matter of the players as i stated merling is wanting first rnd pick money and ireland rightfully so doesn't want to pay a at the moment injured second rnd pick first rnd money..it is not irelands fault the guy slid to the second. heck merling should be thankful to get 2nd rnd money. i won't consider he dropped the ball as we always here this kind of talk from most teams every year.

It appears Ireland will not meet his goal of July 1st. I figured it was a long shot, but I was hoping at least Langford(3rd round) would have got his deal done by today. It is a very boring time of year, and we need some news!

suprising that Langford has not signed. The other two players may have some feeling they should have went higher but Langford unless he is on crack should not have that feeling.

Boring? How can you say that when the US National Underwater Hockey Championships are just weeks away in Gainesville.(Look it up!)

My guess is that they will get back to trying to sign them next week, with at least Langford done next week.
