Will Jason Allen Play?

ha, you know, he just might. Saban hasn't gone on record sayign he won't.

I would love to see him play, but the likelyhood of him actually getting any time is very low. For him to have assimilated a good percentage of the defense by now is very unlikely.

Here's the thing. I know a bunch of people are going to say no, but I don't think Saban has made a CONCRETE decision on that. He said he would PROBABLY do like he's done in the past...not put a player in a game situation until he's had 8 or 9 practices under his belt.

But, the bottom line is Allen showed up to camp Tuesday, called the workout "nothing" compared to the workouts he was doing in atlanta between 12pm and 2pm in long sleeve shirts to get use to the heat, and he's been performing better than you would think at this point with him being behind. In fact, a layman could watch practice and not know he's behind at all.

There are exceptions to every rule and Saban may just say...screw it, you're in fantastic shape, there's no reason not to put you in this game. He has not quite ruled it out yet, just merely suggested that he'll probably stick by what he's done in the past. Probably is not definitely.

Saban did say they would handle him like Ronnie. Giving him 6 to 8 practices before playing him. At least thats how I remember it.

He did not say he WILL handle it like that. He used a qualifier. He left the window open.

By practices does he mean days, or do two a days count as two practices?

Because if two a days count as two since he has been practicing since tuesday he is close to that and has met the 6 practices already (if they practiced at all today im not sure) or is at least close

Practice means practice. If there's two practices on a day that's two practices.

There are no practices on Friday. Allen practiced twice on Tuesday (once at the Dolphins stadium), once on Wednesday, and twice on Thursday.

Saban said he normally likes a guy to have about 8 or 9 practices in before a game. Allen has had 5. I believe Ronnie had 5 or 6 before his first preseason game came up, and he sat him for the game.

the way i see it, the safety positions are so wide open, and allen seems like a guy who really made it a priority to put himself int he best position possible coming into camp after the holdout.

And again, Like CK said, sabans usually a straightforward guy. When he leaves a window open, its usually on purpose.

I think he left that window open because he recognized that as a DB, and as a hard worker, Allen probably is well conditioned. When he stepped onto that field Tuesday he was in better condition than most of the players on our roster. Sometimes you can make the exception under those circumstances. As a rule, the heavier you are, the tougher it is to get yourself into football shape...and Allen's a 209 pound DB that spent his off time working out in Atlanta at a few different state of the art facilities, spending 2 hours a day in maximum heat conditions with long sleeves, etc.

I hope so! I want to see this kid play!!

I think you are reading it right CK. Nick left the window open and JA was prepared. I was SO pleased when coach said Jason did better than expected. Jason also thought it through with the conditioning program although it is the cumulative effects of the heat that will ultimately tell if he is far behind, relative to conditioning. I bet he's not.

You know, I keep marvelling at the details. They prepared tapes with voice overs. Now I'll bet it's been done before...but for a "holdout" ... and by US ? How efn cool is that.

Maaaaaaaaaaannn, DON'T DO IT!...guys that hold out of camp, usually get hurt tryin to cut the grass too quickly (jmo).

Let him earn his money he sucked out of us and play. We need to find out if we invested good or not before the season starts. The sooner the better IMO.
