If you're Mangini, you've got to be pondering the use of the spread offense against the Fins. It worked very well for NE, and KC also killed us with it.

Does Favre have what it takes to run an efficient spread offense? Will he be able to gunsling the ball around without throwing INTs? That's gotta be the decision Mangini is making - use the spread which you know can kill the Fins and risk Brett's mistakes or limit his throws to short passes and check downs while featuring the rushing duo of Jones and Washington.

Do the Jets have the right personnel to use the spread offense? I think yes - certainly with Coles, Cotchery, Keller, Stuckey, Washington, and Jones, they're equipped to do it quite well.

How will we defend against it? Do you think we'll be prepared? Or just put our offense in the position of having to score 30+ in another shootout?

Can't wait til Sunday!!!! GO FINS!!!!!!!!

I hope they use the spread offense. Favre's arm won't last past the 3rd quarter if he has to put up more than 30 attempts.
I think Mangini is going to rely on Thomas Jones to grind it out. He has lost confidence in Favre (IMO) after the way Favre has played the last 3 weeks.
There is too much riding on this game for the Jets and Mangini. He's going to coach a conservative gameplan and play not to lose.
Hopefully the Fins come out loose and confident and play to win. That means Henning coming up with a few wrinkles and creative plays.
In reality, there is no pressure on Sparano and the Fins because they were never supposed to be in this position in the 1st place. They are approaching this game with a chip on their shoulder and are exuding a quiet confidence.
The Jets are now trying to stop the bleeding and have a lot of pressure on them from their fans and the NY media. Especially after all the money they spent in the offseason.

If they are smart they will test those waters against us. Im not sure how sucessfull of an approach that will be considering how much our secondary has seemed to of improved over the last month. I think our DB's can handle Favre.

Defensivly I hope the Dolphins stack the box. Use a lot of blitz packages. Let our DB's play the recievers one on one in coverage and force them to try to beat us on Favres arm. I think that is our best attack.

Oasis so funny you bring this up i was watching the KC game today and me and the family were just talking about this....if they have a brain they will use it..and that scares the hell outta me.

The jets tried the spread offense against the raiders and you see what that got them!!!:sidelol:

I have mixed feelings on it. I think the Jets will try to ground it out against us with Jones, and a heavy dose of him. I also expect to see Leon Washington in the game quite a bit, of course.

But I strongly believe that their best chance to win the game in spreading us out. This is my main concern, if they do try to spread us out.

I disagree that Farve's arm will be blown out with 30 attempts. He cant throw the long ball at this time. But the short routes from the spread, that is my main concern.

Stuckey in the slot, to be more specific, I worry about. I think running heavy on the spread, Farve throwing 35-40 mosty short passes, is the only way they beat us.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm pretty worried about this - if they spread us out and jump out to an early lead, we could be in for some trouble. Favre will have some dangerous short options from the spread, a la Charles in the KC game. I can just see Washington tearing us up from the spread.

Gotta get the lead early and put all the pressure on Brett so he'll make some mistakes.

They can win this ball game by running the ball and connecting on short routes. I don't think the Jets need to sling the ball to win against us.

maybe but i don't think so... putting the game in the hands of favre is like putting a 10 year old behind the wheels of a monster truck

if i was mangini i'd try to establish the running game, keep our defence on the field and pennington off it

With Favres interceptions lately, it would be a bad idea(If they tried to drown us in a spread offense, we would get four picks and probably as many sacks). There best bet(and its not a good one) is to pound Thomas Jones, play after play. I have alot of respect for him, but if the smart play by the Jets is a one man show, they are in bad shape.

They can use the spread, but Brett is definitely not as mobile as Cassell or Thigpen, so I expect us to get more pressure when they spread us out.

If the Jest do not use the Spread Offense on Sunday, they are bigger losers than I thought...

That is Miami's major weakness. It kills us to to the lack of a pass rush other than Porter.

However, when Miami does get pressure we have a good enough secondary to stop the big play. We just do not have a secondary that can let a QB have a full 4-6 seconds to get a throw off. But then again, most every other team is the same way.

We just need to get in Lord Farve's face early and often. That will allow our Defense to trap him on a play or two in the second half. Man-Up on Farve and he can make the play deep. But stunt-blitz him at the right time and the INT might just go all the way.

I think the running game of R&R express will take over the 1st half. Chad will make some big 3rd down & shorts, then R&R will get us the lead.

I think Miami will use more 2 & 3 DL formations in the game during the second half. That is when Bret will read blitz and get a zone-man combo that leads to his 2nd pick of the game.

Miami wins this game...but it will be a close one. ...lol...

Miami: 31
vs.
Jest: 13

Brett will throw a Defensive TD' and another pick that will come close to scoring. This team will be FIRED UP and READY TO PLAY come SUNDAY!!!

1-15 can make you REAL HUNGRY and an old dried up plate of the JETS will taste just good enough to get us to the RAVENS! Payback will be another dish to come in a few weeks. Toasted Bird anyone???

GO FINS!!!
