Will Our Dolphins Start Out 0-4?

I am as much of an optimist as anyone here and have tickets to opening day. However that opening four team gauntlet of Pats, Balt, Buff and Cinci is brutal and I can easily see an 0-4 start. Pats give us the biggest chance of a win but beating that seasoned and very good D is no easy task. New coaches, O, blocking, runs and players need time to get on the same page.

Our D has stayed pretty much the same and I am hoping as our many that they can hold the fort to start until the O catches up. IF they play well I give us a fair shot vs Pats. Past that is tuff.

No matter the start much better times are around the corner with Jets, Minne, Pitt, Lions,Bears and Browns taking us to the bye. I believe the "Trial by Fire" to start the year brings this team together and in sync. A six game win streak would not surprise me in a potential "Tale of Two Dolphins."

Like most here, I don't expect 4-0. What I DON'T want is any loss with a lot of 3 and out and/or lopsided TOP

Even if the offense starts slow I don’t expect our defense to make any of the games easy for our opponents. The only team that really concerns me from an offensive standpoint in the first 4 games is the Bills.
Our recent history of slow starts and the defense needing time, I expect to continue…until proven otherwise. The offense will need time too, so I’m not at all optimistic about early schedule…but I expect to make the playoffs regardless. They will come on strong late and nobody will want to play them.

It may or may not be a "brutal" series of games.

Cincinnati is going thru what many SB contenders go thru the following season - a loss of some key players in FA and other changes that weaken the team.

The Pats have been dropping off the last few years. Part of that was losing Brady, but an even bigger part is that they have had almost all their key coaches go to other teams in the last 5 years. This year they brought Flores back as their DC. This should work out well, but after his "tour" with the Dolphins, something about him seemed to change. He may or may not prove to be as good a DC as he used to be.

Baltimore is good and has been for a few years, but I think they leveled off last year and the NFL teams are catching up - especially the Dolphins.

Like it or not, Buffalo is a very good team and seems to be able to keep its focus as an excellent team. Maybe this is the year the league begins to catch up - it happened with Baltimore.

My point is this, these teams may not be as strong in relation to the Dolphins as they have been in the past. Two of them may be our equal or even less. The other two may be our equal, or even more than our equal. This would imply a 2W-2L split as the most likely outcome of those 4 games.

That means the next 4 games can be tough, but not necessarily "brutal".

We could even go 4W-0L. This is not an uncommon occurrence in the NFL when a new HC comes on board. It often takes the NFL a fair part of the season before they are able to predict the new HC's game plans and develop successful schemes to beat them.
Flores is in Pitt not New England. We don't know who is calling the plays for NE as of yet.

Baltimore always gives us fits (minus last year), however they were decimated in injuries.

I would be happy with going 2-2 the first 4, with close losses to Buffalo and Baltimore.

I think in this case you will be proven wrong.

McDaniel looks better and better each time I see him on the air and see & read about how he's handling OTA's, TC and seeing the type of players we are bringing in as a team. I think if we are ever going to see a year where a new HC "swamps" the opposition with their brand of game planning and play calling, this is the coach and this is the year.

Would be fantastic.

Get out of town with that nonsense. Thank you.

Agreed! They have to show that they can compete, respectable, with the top teams. Additionally they have to win at least 2 of the 4 games. Preferably against the division opponents. That would be huge going 2-0 in the division to start the year.

I believe we go 3-1 we win both home games and take Cincy at their home. We have the new LB to control that freakn Josh Allen, he is not effective when kept in the pocket!

Personally, I think 2W-2L is the most reasonable probability for the Dolphins.

I also anticipate that 3W-1L is not that improbable. As of now, I consider that 3rd win a toss-up.
Better yet, I can see a possibility to go 4W-0L, but that would be a very low probability.

Agreed! Agreed! If I’m being honest I thing the most reasonable wins are against

1) Patriots - They have a lot to figure out about their team and it doesn’t help they lost key defensive people and things on the OC side of things.

2) Baltimore - I know they had a lot of pieces missing when we played them last. But I do t think us beating them was a fluke. I really feel Miami’s found something against them.

Chargers and Especially Bills, imo, are the least likely wins. Obviously, I’m hoping we kick their asses. But they’re both stout on both sides of the ball. Tough tough matchups.

You can easily see us losing to the Patriots at home in Week 1? I don't think we lose that game.

Ravens on the road I think will be difficult but if the Dolphins can beat the Bills in Week 3 that's all we need to know for this season. We'll officially be legit and the league will notice.
New England is no longer a problem. They’re old news. Less talented Miami teams have beaten more talented New England teams. Week 1 is probably the first time since probably 2003 that Miami is playing New England as the clear cut favorite. If Miami loses week one to New England it’s because of self inflicted wounds like turnovers and penalties. I expect the spread to be Miami -5 come September 11

Come on guy’s give the OP some slack, I see the optimism in ever thread he makes.
