Do you guys think that these two can form our next decent CB tandem?

I think it is extremely possible.

The Eagles replaced Vincent and Taylor with Shepperd and Brown and it worked fantastically well for them. I know that both Poole and Daniels are lower draft choices but they are both talented. Could they be the next Surtain and Madison.

I think we are all hoping so. Poole obviosly has the best shot at doing so seeing as he was a 1st round talent that slipped due to charcter issues.

Daniels`s speed is questionable, but i think he´ll be a good third corner! I think miami needs a young speedster to keep up with the fast receivers or a "killer" pass rush! as long as madison is a starting corner, the dolphins are set at cb with him and pool starting and daniels, howard and edwards as 3rd, 4th...! but unfortunately that will be in 2006!

exactly... and whos to say that Madison will stil be here then... doesnt his contract get big after this year.

I think Saban is trying to add meat up front to take the pressure off whomever is in the secondary. And Saban believes success starts with pressure up front and I agree, you could have avg. corners if your getting pressure on the QB, so I think Poole and Daniels could be the next tandem for the fins.

No!

They'll be very solid but their not that talented!

I've likened out CB situation with Philadelphia for a while. The era of success has seemingly come at the same time and they flused out their 'big two' just before ours seemed to crumble.

Personally, as much as I love Matt Roth, I would have loved Saban's plan to take Corey Webster in the 2nd round (he went 3 picks previously to the Giants -- Saban had called him earlier and promised to pick him if available). I felt Webster fit the bill perfectly to have a great legacy here in Meee-ahhhh-meee but it was not to be, I guess....And I DO like Travis Daniels but there is always that little big of hesitance in my mind that perhaps Saban has a little sweat on his brow after C. Web was drafted, and then took "the next best thing", LSU CB wise.

But to answer the question, quite possibly yes. Will they be as good as Surtain and Madison in their prime? Possibly, but most probably not -- however, that's not to say they can't be VERY VERY good. I think it's too early, personally, to draw any soluable substance and Will has not had a huge lot of opportunity given he's been here over a year but when he is healthy again, I think he'll be able to impress as he did in his first training camp.

im not sure, but madiason is getting older and im sure he'd like to end his career here, i would like to see him do that, but as he gets older he might slip to a 3rd or 4th spot in his late years, as of now hes a starter and a lock there and will be for the next 2-3 year probably

You dont know that. Your baseing that by where they were drafted but Madison and Surtain wernt drafted in the 1st round

From what I've seen Saban's D relies on pressure upfront and great safety play. I don't think great CBs are a priority for this D. Sure, having great CBs is better and I believe Poole can be very good (top 10-15 potential), but I don't expect that Miami will use much of their resources (financial and draft picks) on CBs.

I would agree. It seems his focus is on the front 7 with ALL players getting bigger and stronger. I dont think Poole and Daniels can be the type of blanket CBs Madison and Surtain were. But again, look at NE's system. They dont have excellent CBs but their system works and they have an incredible front 7.

If you get a good Dline and LB corps, you dont need CBs who can cover WRs 7 seconds downfield and I think thats the direction we are headed.

Therefore we dont need Poole and Daniels to be as good as Madison and Surtain, which is great because it allows us NOT to spend 20 million a year on our CB corps.

While all indications are that Poole and Daniels are the heir-apparents to SM and PS, I still think that Saban had FS in mind for Daniels before Poole's injury, at least for this year. Daniels could have come in and been very good at the position (an edge to him over Tillman and Bua due to his experience in Saban's system) and his lack of ideal speed (for a CB in the NFL) would not have been much of an issue since he's got plenty of speed for the FS position. He has played all of the CB and S positions at LSU, so he has knowledge of what Saban wants to see. Obviously, that all changed with Poole's injury.

Now, with a slot open opposite SM, Edwards, Daniels and Howard are competing for the it. Howard may still end up being that guy though. He has got the skill and speed for that position and played a similar D scheme at Carolina. He was not cut out to be a JJ/Wanny CB. His weakness is straight man-on-man coverage that the previous regime wanted from their CBs. I remember reading somewhere that Howard has an attitude problem right now, so that is why he's listed as 3rd in line behind Edwards and Daniels. Either way, all three will get lots of playing time. I suspect we'll play the nickel and dime packages about 30% of the time provided our DL stops the run and forces 2nd, 3rd and 4th & long situations.

I would suspect that we will be in the market for another CB next draft/FA period. SM may not be brought back due to his age and salary, however he is signed thru 2007. A change in scheme may also prolong his career here to at least 2007 (assuming his cap hit next year is managable) since pure speed will not be the major basis of coverage. He may even end up as the nickel/dime guy with a healthy Poole and a drafted CB (next year).

Either way it goes, unless Daniels/Edwards?Howard fall completely on their faces this year, we are not in as bad shape as we thought we would be, pending any other injuries.

Thats the dream hopefully it will become reality if Travis proved he is that damn good.

I think having superb "prototype" corners wont be the main thing Saban is looking for we will be running more Zone and the instincts and ball awarness will be more important than the 1 on 1 ability...so yes I think Poole and TD can be the starters here and be very effective.

The next Surtain Madison??? I mean, I hope they do well and would be ecstatic if we could get solid production out of one of them, but cmon... you're like 20 steps ahead of yourself. It's always a gamble at cb... look at Fletcher.
