The signing of SUH could go either way for Philbin. It could propel the team to a playoff appearance, saving Philbin's job, or a conflict between player and coach could arise that forces his exit as the FO is firmly aligned with Suh.

Here is a quote from an interesting article that makes me think the Philbin/Suh relationship won't go so swimmingly...

Many NFL coaches want gripping conformity. A player like Suh is a challenge. The issues that arise with that speak more to the coaches than to the players. Coaches who are ill-equipped to manage "intelligent" players are weak coaches.

It's a good read to get a good picture of the complex nature of Suh and his dynamic within a team.

If Philbin seeks to control Suh like he so often does with other players, I don't believe it will end well for Lil Queasy.

I don't think Philbin's problem is with "intelligent" players. if he does have a problem, its with players who are "stupid" (Vontae Davis), "overly selfish" (Mike Wallace), or head cases with issues off the field (Brandon Marshall).

To me, Suh seems like an intelligent and thoughtful individual and if anything I think he could wind up being one of Philbin's biggest allies.

Tannehill is Philbins damnation.

Here is how fans will react to the Suh signing in 3-4 seasons:

I TOLD YOU TANNENBAUM WOULD RUIN THIS FRANCHISE!!!!!!!!!!!

We'll probably find out relatively suhn.

Miami needs a playoff appearance. Another 8-8 ain't gonna cut it and I believe ultimately that is why Tannenbaum was brought in. He keeps Ross from having to make the tough decisions.

This organization is poorly run. You have the owner vouching for a substandard coach and then you have an abomination the following week to end the season. Then you give a fake title to Tannenbaum to avoid the Rooney Rule and pretty much make Hickey a sitting duck.

2015 . . . if we don't win, Philbin/Hickey are gone . . . and Tannenbaum take over and finds a new coach . . . and both will have to make a decision on the QB (though his 2016 contract will be guaranteed).

This is a big year.

Suh's addition can only be a plus.

He will improve the defense, he's never been significantly injured.

The way I see it, Philbin's potential 'damnation' is linked to three things.

#1 - Tannehill, he needs to be better on deep passes and converting 3rd downs in the 4th quarter

#2 - Coyle, he still needs to show that he is not the problem on D.

#3 - Philbin's game time decisions. I think he was outcoached by the Packers, Panthers and Lions and in other games

This won't end well for Philbin. Tannenbaum will want his own people and Ross knows this I'm sure. Tannenbaum is a hammer.

I disagree, he ousted plenty of the intelligent "non-conformists", including Dansby and Bush. Philbin has a problem with intelligent players in leadership roles who don't conform to his every whim. I think that could spell trouble in his relationship with Suh.

We already heard Odrick blast Philbin on the way out, and Odrick is actually a lot like Suh in terms of personality.

Philbin doesn't connect with players, that much is obvious. To me, that is a huge problem and I think it becomes worse when you have more strong personalities on the team.

I think this whole "Philbin doesn't connect with players" is over blown. You can make a financial argument very easily for Reggie Bush and Karlos Dansby being gone. We actually tried to keep Jake Long and he left for more money. How in the world to we keep Odrick with the Suh contract?

Wallace is different....it isn't intelligence he is dealing with, it is selfishness and a me first attitude. I'm personally in a people business.....but I also have a hard time "connecting" with stupidity.

Lots of things to be unhappy about with Coach Philbin, but this particular issue, is minor at best.

Can you name a single player on the team which has a close relationship with Philbin? Usually the QB has a solid relationship with the HC, but we know that isn't true after the stunt last year.

Multiple players have dogged him after leaving, including Odrick just yesterday. He doesn't have a strong connection with the players, I don't think that can be disputed.

No....I can't name anyone....but truth be told, I don't know any of them personally, and I'm guessing you don't either.

For all I know, you may be right...... but you are making assumptions. I haven't seen anything to indicate that our QB has a bad relationship with our head coach. Have you?

How about when he openly criticized his HC's decision not to name him starter? Seems like a frayed relationship to me...

Again, you may be right.....but you are assuming a lot. And I'm pretty sure RT declared himself the starter.......which showed a lot of pride and confidence. I also think that was the game he started turning around his season. So every time Philbin and a player don't agree on something, that means they have a frayed relationship?

Philbin has a lot of shortcomings as a coach.....the poor use of timeouts, sticking with poor performers too long, game plan management and a conservative approach to closing out games to name a few......but this one is minor.

I don't think he is either, but I would lean towards salvation. Surely he would have been good for a win or two more last year, and IMO we are already on the upswing before he signed.

He will just help to accelerate our inevitable rise to a championship caliber team.:hump:

Suh is going to play hard in spite of anyone getting on his case about anything, whether that's Philbin or Coyle or some other players.
IMO he didn't sign the 100 mil contract just so he can be rich -- it's a medal of pride to his still-going career, and I think he wants to play up to that challenge of being the highest paid defensive player who's also Worth their salary, and not a Haynesworth bust.

Philbin may not be a bright game manager but I don't think he's a stupid guy. He must know this is a do-or-die year, and he has to make it work if he wants to keep his role as HC in this league.
