first team to sign a major free agent!!!

I say Miami starts 1st on friday with BRees the new signal caller!!! I also predict the Vikings or PAckers to make a move on Jamal Lewis:dolphins:

I just don't think Brees is the best option, I mean yes he's better than Gus, but he's done nothing special in San Diego (except for 2004, but remember the years before that). I just worry about his height (and shoulder and don't know who he will be in the supposed Linehan system) but if he came to Miami I would be somewhat excited, but I just wish Saban and Company would wait a little and not jump at the chance to snag Brees.

I admit that the shoulder injury scares me a little, but according to reports Brees is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation. As for the offensive system they'll probably keep the same offensive system from 2005 with a few variations. Besides, he's the best option out there in terms of a new quarterback. I would not be down with another year with Gus at the helm and no one in the draft really impresses me much (Cutler included). Brees is young, is coming off two consecutive good years and would be a major upgrade at quarterback here, our first REAL quarterback since 1999.

I'm not so sure we will jump and sign Brees on Friday. Two reasons- 1) I think this type of major signing usually takes up to 2-3 days, because its a longer visit then usual before they even begin to talk numbers, 2) It seems that Saban is monitoring the Culpepper situation very closely. He may be the #1 choice for all we know. Oh, and I'll add a 3) We have to convince Drew to come here before Detroit! (Unlike Damien Woody)

brees is the real thing. He to me is a better QB than manning. He has more accuracy and more mobility. He just needed the recievers, McCardell was ok but old. Here we have recievers and need a QB its a perfect fit.

The Panthers may also be in the Jamal Lewis sweepstakes.

Well for those worried about Brees's arm strength and shoulder strength, and those that say that Frerotte did a decent job here last year.

It won't take much for Brees to do better then Frerotte's 25% completion rate on passes over 11 yards. Granted he was 41.4 on passes from 11-20. But that is still horrible.

I hope Saban makes Brees the 1st FA signed.

i agree i dont think he is the BEST option, that would be Jay Cutler IMO but he is a significant upgrade over Gus, and unlike alot of people i dont think we will give up alot for him, because the arm streangth factor when he comes back from injuryand the system changes that he just might fall victim too

forget about singing a QB the dolphins need to get some o-linmen, that's what we need. the dolphins current o-line is weak

Who cares if we're the first to sign a major free agent?

Personally, I think they'll try and wait to see what happens to Culpepper. They also won't sign Brees until they've had a chance to have him checked out by their physicians.

I think Drew Brees is a solid option. However, I agree that I wouldn't want to jump the gun without letting things develop and see what other options present themselves. I wouldn't mind if the first player we sign is Bently or Peterson.

Sometimes you have to "jump the gun". When an opportunity to get a QB like Brees comes around, you can't drag your feet. If you do, someone will be more than happy to jump the gun in front of you. On March 3rd, we should make a nice offer to him and I'm willing to bet we do.
