I want to be hopeful but, I don't know what to think of our chances at stopping the run this year. With the new regime, and fresh players It's kinda hard to predict. So Do you think we will be improved vs the run this year.

Where do you see us when it's all said and done,

Top Third (best in League)

Middle Third (Average)

Last Third (Worst)

i think average. We couldnt possibly be worse than last year.

Not if Ferguson stays healthy. He is a grown *** man down there in the middle.

Nah, I think we are too strong up front. And I mean strong in the form of physical strength not strong in the sense of really good. But, we are pretty good up there.

But, the key is our physical strength up there. The LBs will be given opportunities to mop up running backs. Wait till next year or two when we get some good LBs and we will really be stout at not only stopping the run but, getting after the QB when we get some LBs that can fly around and make plays all over.

Anything has to be an improvement. I wouldn't guess any better than average right now. They looks really good last week and barring injuries I would expect similar results going forward.

My prediction is the dolphins finish between 13th and 19th in stopping the run... This is hard to put an exact number on because injuries just make a huge difference.. Langford for example, is a good run stopper, as is Merling.. And if they get hurt, all bets are off.

im saying top third. if you look at our stats in the preseason stats, and im aware its preseason, we have one of the best rush defenses in the league. again i know its preseason, but our firsts still played jacksonvilles fiesrt last week and held MJD and Tayolr to 39 yards rushing in the first half. gotta tell you something

It has to be better than last year, i like the look of the defensive line they're really revamped it. Jason Taylor was never really a good run stopper and he's gone. They brought in some new players like Ferguson and Starks to help beef it up. I'd assume they finish at least middle of the pack in run defense.

I'm saying top. Our front 7 is big, mean, and nasty. Merling, Langford, Solai, Holliday, Ferguson, Porter, Crowder, and Ayodele should hold things down as good as anyone. BTW we have great depth IMO.

I'm more concerned about the pass rush than stopping the run. I think we've got enough talented big bodies at MLB and along the line to be pretty good against the run. Just don't see a hobbled Joey Porter and Matt Roth generating a lot of pressure on the QB from the OLB positions.

I think we will be good solid defense on most downs but will make some mental mistakes that will give up some big plays in the running game. There are a lot of young players who have yet learned how to play together as a team. With so many new parts trying to learn how to play together and learn a new system I think we will make some mistakes especially early in the season.
By mid to end of the season I feel we will be a solid top ten vs the run. Add that to the fact that the end of our schedule is quite easy and I feel we will be going into next year as everyones media darlings.
A month ago I started to put money on the under 5 wins that the vegas odds had us at. Now it is up to 5.5 and I am pretty sure that I will end up putting money on the over now. I have won $500 each of the last 3 years betting the over under on season wins for the fins. I really feel this team is on the right track for the first time in quite awhile.

Average. But that would be a major improvement from last year. On a whole, I think this team is alot better than most are giving us credit for. I am pretty tired of that smug *** Rod Woodson nearly laughing at us every time we are mentioned on NFL Network. I know we are getting what we earned as far as respect goes, but it's still irratating as hell.

THe best cure for all of this is some W's.

If our front 7 stays healthy, I think we will be between 10-17 in the league against the run. If not, we may be in trouble.

my thoughts exactly. i see us being around tenth in the league against the run. it will be a good with room for improvement kind of thing.

with focusing entirely on the line and leaving LB for next year (i assume), we left sacking the quarterback on the wayside. and that goes both ways. you can say starting in the trenches is the best way to rebuild just as convincing as you can say abandoning LB the year you are switching to a 3-4 might come back to get you. neither are wrong. parcells has shown results in the past - so i will trust it until we have like 5 sacks in week 5.

but we should be fine against the run. we have tons of depth on the line and linebackers that are mostly run stoppers as opposed to pass rushers. and if roth is really gonna be an OLB (interesting for lack of a better word) that makes us that much better against the run.

I think we will be a lot better than last year. Our run d thus far in the pre season has looked very good. Merling and Langford seem to lead the way in disrupting the running game.
