we are pretty thin at the DT position. Do you think Wright could contribute this year? With the loss of Tim Bowens and possibly larry chester, who will be our defensive tackle. Is it possible that Wright will start?

our starters will be Carter and Traylor with Zgonina rotating in, it's very possible that both Vickerson and Wright get some solid playing time as the #4 and #5 DTs on the depth chart

i thought that kevin carter was a defensive end not a defensive tackle??

To tell you the truth, if we don't have injuries at DT, i can only see him play in about 3 games. Next year is when he will prob get PT in every game.

he rotates between DT and DE but I believe that this year he will play mostly at DT because of the lack of DTs

if you look ahead to next year then Traylor might be cut if Wright can prove himself and he might start along side of Carter with Zgonina and Vickerson as the primary back-ups

is it possible that chester can return??? He was really good before he got hurt

Its going to take him a couple of years to develop. I dont see him contributing much this year.

as of right now Chester is returning but it's still believed that he will retire from various sources, if he returns then that will really put a damper on Wright's playing time

He'll contribute... that was the whole point of jumping on him now. There's no way Chester stays healthy for 16 games (or more) ... and that's if he plays at all. Plus, the only way Traylor plays every down is if he sits down for half of them.

I'd say it all depends on how the season goes...

If your D is solid, and the o holds it together...and you have a shot down the stretch he'll probably be riding the pine.

But if you are getting beaten and you are, say...4-7 with 5 games to go he'll get some PT...if he's ready.

i don't think Saban is going to compromise his D to develop a player during the season.

thats what the preseason games are for, thats when we see how much playing time Wright will get

I don't see why he shouldn't get some playing time this year. We're paper thin at DT, and this guy has mammoth size. It sounds like all he needs is some good discipline, and who better to offer that then Saban??...

He may not start anytime soon, but we should rotate him in on occation...

PHINZ RULE!!!

I see him playing primarily on passing downs to give Chester and Traylor a breather form rushing the QB. His bio seems to indicate a fast first step and his 4o times are decent for a guy his size. But his weakness is is strength (pardon the contradiction) By putting him in on passing downs the OL is back peddling and not necessarily drive blocking (this plays into his strengths and avoids his weakness) of course if we put him over center he'll probably be neutralized pretty good. But in the gap with his fast first step, size and overall good speed he could cause good penetration in collapsing the pocket - all while giving our strength guys a break. ..... just how I see him contributing this year.

He will see very limited playtime this year barring injury...He could end up with a lot of PT considering out age/depth at DT but that would NOT be a good situation.
