Officially I see no announcement on his plans for the upcoming 2010 season but one would have to imagine that his storied career is almost at a close(unofficially he his retired). I loved watching this man play football and I would think even if you are a fan of other teams he is one player you can route for even if you are not a Dolphins fan.
Anyone who is given almost no chance in hell at making a professional NFL team and then goes on to be 7 time pro bowler with 5 first team all pros is the definition of over achiever to me. At 5-11 and 230 everyone said “to small to play inside” but lucky for the Dolphins his measuring stick was on the inside. He played at twice his size and at one point in his career if you asked this NFL fan who he would rather have anchoring a defense Ray Lewis or Zach Thomas, I think I would have picked Thomas. Thomas was never in the lime light, never a distraction to the team and always played his heart out even if the game was lost. I wish a few of the players on this current roster (cough cough JP) would realize a little humility goes a long way in showing leadership and sometimes saying nothing at all says more then running at the lip.
This fan hopes and begs if Zach decides to close the door on his NFL career that the Dolphins front office at least will extend the common courtesy to offer Zach a retirement contract so his number 54 will go down in the Dolphins annals of time and not with another franchise. He was a great player, he was a great leader and he is a great person and if he decides to call it quits I hope he would accept any offer the Miami franchise would make so he could retire an all time Dolphin great.
I wish we had his younger version leading this team in 2010 and maybe some of the young ones would learn what it is like to play football like man, with pride and honor and a sense of commitment to excellence. His number 54 will be second to only number 13 in my heart.
