He is always missing tackles and lost in coverage. Wilson is strong against the run sometimes but thats it. He has hands of stone and never seems to be able to make the play on a consistent basis. Culver and Clemens should get their chances and Wilson should just be gone. :rimshot:

I was worried about Wilson when we signed him. I heard he had issues against the pass.

Boles is a very strong coach and although it may not seem like, the secondary has gotten better since week 1. I am encouraged and confident that with the bye week you will see a significant improvement.

Against the Jets it was Davis, Bell and W. Allen that gave up the big plays. Wilson did not play that badly.

I noticed improvement in the Jets game, he played okay, though drawing a bad call. I believe we are in position to make a huge, and I do mean huge, trade before the deadline. Its just a feeling I have right now.

Because we gave him a lot of money besides I'm not going to give up hope on him just yet, ill wait until the end of the season, hes in a new system and sometimes these things take time.

I don't really get all the bitching on Wilson. He's an average player that has missed a couple of important tackles. Is that excusable? Absolutely not but it's not as if he's the only one. Allen has fluttered between great and absurd and Bell has made some pretty horrible mistake himself. Bell is a sure tackler and hard hitter but I don't have the same love affair with him as a lot of people on here. Lots of tackles on his account surely means we don't have enough pressure on the ball in the air or that out linebackers have let a runner slip through their net.

Yes, Wilson is a long way short of pro bowl calibre but he has a ring as a starter I believe, he must be able to do something right. Our backfield problems haven't emerged this year, it was horrible at times last year too. Wilson, for me is an ideal role play back that would excel with the presence of a game breaking ball hawk at FS. As, indeed would Bell but Wilson's a lot younger. He's gonna be useful down the road. This roster is not complete. It's competitive but it's not complete.

Cause he is from San Jose :chuckle::chuckle:

Remember this is the same coaching staff that watched 1 safety play like trash last year and got no problem releasing him. I know more money is tied into Wilson but I think if they feel he is the problem they would sit him

Where I agree the bitching makes no sense you lose me with he's an average player. Average players do not sign 27mil contracts, we signed him knowing he's a liability in pass coverage but were willing to chance that knowing he would shore up the run defense. When he failed to make tackles early on it was very valid for anyone to ask why we signed him but of course the over-reactors go nuts on the issue. Add Y.Bell's struggles and you get a another good reason why we started 0-3 when the deep middle was like it was wide open for Manning and Rivers. Both have played pretty solid as of late and some of you will one day learn that your secondary is as good as your pass rush, they go hand in hand. The biggest difference maker outside a pass rush is having a shutdown CB that needs zero rolled coverage (help) and we may one day have that in V.Davis or S.Smith but for now we need the pass rush.

Wilson is just not very good in pass coverage simply put, but neither is Bell. We cannot keep these two around IMO or our secondary will consistently get abused for years to come. Leaving one at SS is okay, but we need a better player for pass coverage at FS.

Begrudgingly, I suppose I should offer up a mea culpa to nyjunkhead with whom we had a running argument over Wilson's relative abilities. Along with others, I embraced the "Moss Logic" that under-performance in the Oakland hellhole isn't necessarily relevant and that in fact, based on his Giants contributions, as a safety he was statistically and essentially comparable to Kerry Rhodes. Despite any shortcomings Gabril was at least supposed to be a tackling machine, so what the hay happened??? If there's any consolation, it appears that Rhodes isn't quite the safety that junkie's made him out to be either.

I'm all for giving Clarence Clemons a shot in the NO game 2nd half if Wilson continues deconstructing.

Wilson had 2 really bad missed tackles against the Colts that were both TD plays, but the bitching just about Wilson needs to stop since Bell has been just as inconsistent at Gibril.

I liked the Wilson signing, and still think he's a good player, but he is a SS and so is Yeremiah Bell. Neither are great in coverage, both at in the box safeties. Now their weaknesses can be hidden if we apply more pressure with the front 7 and hurry the QB like the Eagles did when they had Brian Dawkins and Michael Lewis (neither are great in coverage, but both were pro bowl players. The one year Philly couldn't get pressure Lewis ended up getting released cause of his struggles).

Yeah Wilson isn't living up to his contract, but he's not the only one. Will Allen and Yeremiah Bell both got new contracts this year. Allen has been hot and cold, and IMO Bell has been a little worse than WIlson because Bell's big screw ups have been PI penalties or big pass plays (only bad plays that stick out with Wilson are his personal foul against the Jets and the 2 missed tackles against Indy).

In all honesty, I think people here just remember him against Indy so whenever there is a big play and he's around the ball they are quick to blame him.

Gibril Wilson has definately been a big letdown. I hope Chris Clemons will eventually get some playing time towards the end of the season.

He hasn't played well much this season. I believed the FinHeaven hype when they signed the guy and got excited about him, no real reasoning behind that. If he doesn't improve his play (which he kind of did against the Jets -- Except that horrible penalty he took) i wouldn't mind looking for someone else next season.
