It is starting to generate that Zach Wilson might not reach Pre-Season as the backup to Tua with the pick of Ewers.

Though I hope whomever wins it, actually gets it because he earned it, with how high McDaniel seems to be with Ewers, and how he has been keeping an eye on him all the way back to late 2023, early 2024, could he already have a leg up on Wilson?

Who would you hope wins the backup position? Would you be happy if Ewers wins it? I put up a poll also to monitor the temperature of Finheaven on this subject.

Ewers.

Simply because we know there is no real future with Wilson as any long term starter.

There's still the chance for Ewers to develop into a quality starter, potential replacement for Tua if needed. I said potential lol.

I think we go with 3 QB’s this season. I think Wilson will be the backup and Ewers will be #3.

Both have big arms, Ewers is probably more accurate. Although, Wilson was pretty accurate in college so maybe it’s just the Jets stink that caused him problems and he’ll get that part of his game back in Miami. Even though Zach is an NFL vet, Ewers may be more mentally ready to play. I think Zach’s experience in the NFL, however, will give him the slight edge to be the backup this coming year.

I'm not even remotely sold on Ewers' mental readiness. Maybe he comes around. And while I believe the concerns over Ewers' arm strength are overblown, his arm isn't comparable to Wilson's, imo.

Zach Wilson is undoubtedly going to be the backup QB and I can give you 6,000,001 reasons why. 6 million of those being guaranteed dollars for 2025.

But it matters not who’s the no.2 or no.3 QB out of the gate. They’re just labels.

If a backup needs to play, Wilson will get the nod first because he’s a veteran and that’s just how it goes. It’s up to him to play well enough to keep from going to the next guy.

These things will get settled on the field so there isn’t much reason to wonder.

I like Ewers. He’s miles ahead of what we’ve had recently.
