The 1st 4 weeks of football were absolute HELL for me being a lifelong Finfan. Didn't see the skins gm (actually I was at the buff/colts gm. don't worry it was work related) however, watching the scoreboard I felt something was wrong with the fins. After the bills gm I knew something was drastically wrong.

In comes Dan Campbell. CBS sports were actually laughing about him and the coaching changes he has made. Lets be real, can he be any worse than philbin???? He lost this team a long time ago and it finally reared its ugly head in a nasty way. I will say this I for one am rooting my ass off for Campbell. I love his energy and fire. when's the last time Miami had a head coach with this kind of fire??? sparano is only one who comes to mind. So with that being said, I do feel that joe being relieved of his duties is a tragedy that it took Ross so long, but the blessing is Dan Campbell...

Go Fins...

When I read "tragedy" in the thread title I was thinking about things far worse than my favorite football team being 1-3 and firing their head coach. It's kind of relieving you were talking about the football team.

Been a lot of talk about Campbell and the Fins but I've yet to see anyone laughing about him. Care to elaborate on what part of cbs sports you are referring to?

I think the local and national media views this team as a joke. However, after firing Philbin without a legit head coach in the staff, this was the decision to make. Especially getting someone the opposite of Philbin. Here is a beef with this organization....if there was a chance that Philbin had a short hook, the FO and Ross should have advertised the job as quiet as they could, in preparation. Not taking anything away from Man Campbell, but the hybrid rebuilding continues, now on the staff

Maybe they did advertise quietly and there were no takers. Why would an established head coach want to come here, except maybe Billick who has no chance of even getting an interview with Ross? The gross mismanagement and incompetence over the last decade+ has rendered our team a retirement destination for the older players and a "good place to be from" for the younger ones.

I am hopeful that Dan Campbell's hiring will be the start of a major change, but I'm not holding my breath.

Like many people here, you are making Philbin out to be the scapegoat of everything wrong with this team. And like many people here, you will soon learn he wasn't. Campbell cannot fix what is broken here. No single coach can do it. Our problems run way deeper than coaching staff.

An NFL team disappointing its fan base, albeit year after year, is far from "tragic".

Campbell is a "blessing" and we haven't even played a game yet. How did you come to that conclusion?

I disagree. Rarely is there mention of the phins. As long as Jerruh in Dallas keeps flapping his gums & that ethically challenged team in MA continues to do well, there is no reason for the media but to continue as is.

Read somewhere that in final practice 1's vs 1's offense beat the defense. Defense had to carry the offense pads. Competition message has been sent. Coaching

Sparano? come on. We will see if there is a blessing tomorrow. I doubt it. And you won't know tomorrow win or lose. I like Campbell and what he offers, but we need a guy that knows what it is like to be a coach not a guy that knows what it is like to be a player. What he is focused on is good stuff, unfortunately stuff like tug'o'war would have been better during camp, not four games into the season. This is the worst season I have seen from the team. Just a mess.

Im pretty sure if Suh doesnt want to carry anybody's pads he wont lol

Poor coaching plus poor drafting equals a poor team, so as you said Philbin doesn't deserve all of the blame. However, I believe that Philbin would have failed even with better drafting. I know that Philbin had a say about personnel because he wants an offense based on short passes and ever since he was hired this team has been through a lot of WRs. So, if he was able to get WRs then he should have had no problem getting o-linemen. Philbin inherited an o-line that needed replacements for an oft-injured LT and a turnstile RT. He had 4 years to fix that; how did he do? He now has an o-line that has no replacement for another oft-injured LT, two of the worst OGs in the league, and a barely effective young RT. This is the line that Philbin decided would get them to the playoffs and save his job. Philbin also inherited a Top 5 rushing defense. But, he hired Coyle, and between the two of them they changed the schemes of the old defense and now can no longer stop the run; even the signing of Suh didn't help. Every decision Philbin has made has hurt this team.

Hiring Campbell as the interim HC won't help in the long run because most of the roster needs to be overhauled, coaches needs to be replaced, and the entire offensive and defensive philosophies need to be scrapped. It appears that all Campbell can (or will) do is replace a few coaches with in-house guys and call a few more running plays. Getting the players fired up may win Campbell a game or three, but unless he undoes the damage that Philbin caused he will fail. I read that all he will do with the o-line is shuffle around the same players that they've been using. However, if this change (or any other thing he may do such as changing blocking schemes along with different playcalling) gets results, then it's evident that Philbin is a complete idiot!
