With the Jennings Signing

Signing a number 3 wr doesnt rule out drafting a number 1.

I doubt this changes anything. If Parker fll we would still strongly consider him at #14.

Why not , people think that these recent low level free agents we signed on line means we don't have to draft a guard lol.
I agree we are not passing on a wr because we signed a receiver like Jennings

I think it means that we won't trade up for Amari Cooper or Kevin White.

And it's unlikely that we'll reach for Breshad Perriman, Dorial Green Beckham, or Jaelen Strong.

But if DeVante Parker falls to #14, there's a good chance we'll take him.

Basically, we now have the luxury of going BPA at #14. Maybe it'll be Brandon Scherff, or DeVante Parker, or someone else.

I don't get how signing Jennings makes us any more likely to go BPA although BPA is likely a WR anyway.
Jennings has been an solid player the past three years but will be 32 when the season begins and seems on decline.
We don't have to move up for a WR to begin with but if we want a really special guy we may have to.

Let's say that Amari Cooper, Kevin White, and DeVante Parker all get taken.

Our #14 pick comes up, and OT/OG Brandon Scherff is available.

- BEFORE the Greg Jennings signing, there was a chance that we would have reached for Breshad Perriman, Dorial Green Beckham, or Jaelen Strong (and I don't like any of those three as 1st rd draft picks; see below).

- AFTER the Greg Jennings signing, there's almost no way we'll reach for one of those three WRs. Now we can take OT/OG Brandon Scherff, or whoever the Miami front office feels is BPA.

As for why I dislike using a 1st rd pick on Breshad Perriman, Dorial Green Beckham, or Jaelen Strong..

Jaelen Strong: On film, you'll notice that he can't make an explosive cutback. And all the draft reports note that he can't separate. And he also did poorly on the agility drills (4.21 on the 20 yd shuttle, and a horrifically bad 7.34 on the 3-cone drill). I mean, even 320 lb Brandon Scherff had a much better 3-cone time (7.18) than Jaelen Strong. It's true that some people just test poorly. But when all signs all point in one direction, there's a good chance that Jaelen Strong won't be able to separate in the NFL, which could be catastrophic against NFL DBs.

Dorial Green Beckham: Dorial Green-Beckham is a physical freak. But his college stats were mediocre, he has a poor work ethic, poor route runner, drug arrests, beats up women, red flags all over. I mean, we already have one physical freak on our roster (LaRon Byrd, 6'4", 220 lbs, 4.45 speed). If we really want another physical freak WR, then Darren Waller in the 4th rd (6'6", 238 lbs, 4.44 speed, one of the few WRs with zero drops last year), is a far better deal than DGB in the 1st rd.

Breshad Perriman: Basically Darrius Heyward Bey. A freakish size-speed athlete (both enter the draft around 6'2", 210 lbs, 4.27-4.30 speed) with inconsistent hands and poor route running. At least Darrius Heyward Bey's 40 time was done at the combine, and he also had a good 3-cone time (6.80). On film, Breshad Perriman doesn't look as fast as his Pro Day 40 time. Pro day times are often suspect (like how Rishard Matthews ran a 4.62 at the combine, and then 4.44 at his pro day). And Breshad Perriman didn't run any of the agility drills, like the 3-cone or 20 yd shuttle.

I wouldn't want Miami to touch any of those guys until mid-2nd rd or later.

If we took any of those three guys over Schreff it would be stupid anyway.
Now the three earlier receivers you mention of course but the three you don't like are reaches to highest degree at 14

Yeah, but before the Greg Jennings signing I've seen some mock drafts saying that we might reach for Breshad Perriman, DGB, or Jaelen Strong.

For example, this mock draft was posted on Apr 20, 2015 (just before the Greg Jennings signing). They said that they pulled "20 drafts from around the Internet" to find a consensus. And for Miami's #14 pick, they listed..

20 percent Breshad Perriman
15 percent Todd Gurley
10 percent Brandon Scherff
10 percent DeVante Parker
5 percent D.J. Humphries
5 percent Dorial Green-Beckham
5 percent Eric Kendricks
5 percent Jaelen Strong
5 percent Jalen Collins
5 percent La’el Collins
5 percent Landon Collins
5 percent Nelson Agholor

Well we have to still draft a wr fairly high, Jennings hasn't really been the same since he left GB and will be 32 by season opener.
Breshad Perriman is a horrible pick at 14 regardless if we sign Jennings or not.

Greg Jennings was Minnesota's #1 WR in 2013 and in 2014, in both receptions and receiving yards. His low numbers were mainly because Minnesota went through 3 different QBs, and QB play ranged from terrible to mediocre.

And it's not like Greg Jennings was a corpse in Minnesota. As I posted on the other thread, Greg Jennings in Minnesota had more long explosive TD plays than Mike Wallace in Miami (Mike Wallace didn't have a single TD play over 40 yds during his 2 years in Miami).

A bigger age concern is LT Branden Albert, who will turn 31 this season. And he tore both his ACL and MCL last November.

IMO Jennings is the perfect WR for TH. Ive posted before that his signing equates to 2 more wins for us vs us not having him. WE could start the season with what we have now at WR and not have to draft another WR. I dont mean that we wont get better by drafting one, but now we dont have to. I dont agre4e with our guard situation in the same way in case anyone thinks that i am saying that.

This should NOT sway us away from Parker or a top 3 WR being there at 14.

Of course not.

What is the first round deep in?

1. Poor fits:
3-4 OLBs
Power scheme linemen

2. Positions we have particular strength at:
Pass-rushing DTs - we have one of those and a few backups (plus the draft is very deep with penetrating DTs/3-4DEs)
Strong safety
QB
ZBS tackles

3. Positions that aren't in the first round with much quality
Free safety
Tight end
4-3 DE
MLB
ZBS guard

So - whether it's a 14 or in a trade-down - effectively we're left with WR, CB, RB and 1-tech DT. We might take a Malcolm Brown or a DJ Humphries even if we have starters already at those positions, but it's far more likely we go with one of these four positions.

You're looking at a list of:

Parker
Perriman (if you believe the hype, which I don't)
Agholor
Smith
DGB

Waynes
Peters
Jalen Collins
K Johnson

J Phillips
D Shelton

Gordon
Gurley

I'd be chasing the bolded players out of that list - wherever we sit in Round 1. I'd also look hard at Humphries, Fisher, Goldman and Paul Dawson.
