  :mdfin: :domodance :samurai: :shark: I feel that the free agent WR's/ Practice squad, etc., will have a hard time making the team without a major injury to one of the top four. We can only have so many WR's on the 53 man roster.

I have been wondering to myself the past few days if Saban might keep six WRs instead of the usual five. Think about for a second:

W1: Chris Chambers
W2: Marty Booker
W3: David Boston
W4: Derrius Thompson
W5: Wes Welker(mostly just because of his returning abilites)

We need Welker as out ST guy, but I wouldn't be confident with him as our #5 WR. So, that is where WR #6 would come in, and we could have a great battle between Gilmore, Newson and possibly Davis.

Yup. I would like to see 5 WR's in our lineup, but since Wes Weslker is our Return Specialist, I feel it would be wise to have 6 WR's (also we shouldn't be counting and depending on Boston to hold up all year.) Between the three fighting it out, Gilmore, Newson, and David... I'm thinking it'll be Gilmore unless Josh Davis really shows us something special.

WR #1:Chris Chambers
WR #2:Marty Booker
WR #3: David Boston
WR #4: Derrius Thompson
WR #5:Bryan Gilmore
WR #6: Wes Welker

That would be pretty damn good!

I don't know, I think Newson has a very good shot in a competition with Gilmore. He may not be a burner, but he was looking great last Preseason before the injury. It will be interesting.

True, but I'm concerned about that season ending injury he had. I believe it was his Achilles, sounded pretty serious at the time I remember.

That is true, he tore his Achilles tendon which isn't a pleasent injury to return from. Hopefully he can return as 100% and compete this year. Isn't it nice to have such a deep WR corps that we might have to many worthy players to make the team? :)

Josh Davis should beat out Bryan Gilmore easily in fact. Davis' route running and hands are far more polished than Gilmore's even though the latter has been in the league for some time now. The real battle would be between davis and Newson. I wouldn't be suprised to see Davis win it. This isn't some run of the mill UFA wr. Unlike J.R. Tolver, Josh Davis has talent and should make this team.

Gilmore was a starter for us last year when Booker was injured. He did a pretty decent job..Imagine him as a 5th wideout. Newson and Davis will be great competitions but Gilmore's ability to return punts and kicks give him the edge.

If we go after McQuarters though, Welker will definatly be cut... and we definatly wont be holding on to 6 WRs... but, if we dont, it is really interesting thought. I LOVE Welker, do not get me wrong in anyway, I would be upset, but I just really think we are gunna go after McQuarters. He isnt a stud, but he is solid and fast. However, the main reason I think Saban will want him is for his versitility with the ability to play CB and Saftey (EDIT: Also a great return specialist!). We would probably use him at Saftey this season.

Nasty

Gilmore started because we had no other options at that point. Every catch he's made have been double-clutched or bobbled and dropped. He may be fast, but speed is not everything especially when you're a WR. His route running is not very good either. Josh Davis has had a very productive career as the #1 wr in a well known football program. He's got the experience and talent to suceed at the next level and it's still beyond me why he wasn't drafted.

Then who will return our kickoffs? The only thing RWM does is return punts, and he really isn't that good at it. He's far from great.

Welker isn't going anywhere. RWM or not.

I see Josh Davis REALLY pushing Newson to make this team.. Josh Davis is going to make the 53 man roster imo... he just gets open and catches the ball.. period.. he doesn't speed by you, doesn't flash any great routes and such, but he gets open and catches the ball.. reminds me of a few of the Patriots WR's.. how they just seem to find a way to get open...
