With linebacker Aldon Smith poised to return to the roster as early as this week, with defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey eligible to come off the injured-reserve designated-to-return list in two weeks, with linebacker NaVorro Bowman poised to return in late November, and running back Marcus Lattimore potentially returning from the NFI list, the 49ers need roster space they simply do not have. It is why, come Tuesday’s trade deadline, the 49ers will be interested in dealing a defensive player or two on the back end of their roster to get back a late-round pick and, more important, a roster spot or two. As it is, the 49ers simply don’t have space for the infusion of talent they’ll be receiving in the next month and they need to somehow try to create it in the most productive way possible. Tuesday’s trade deadline could be just the chance.

anyone linebackers worth trading for on there back end?

Kasim Osgood is a big time special teams ace too. Special teams have lacked big time this year for Miami.

I could see trying to upgrade our special teams.

I would rather get VJ out of Tampa to help Ryan that much more.

Not gonna happen. We have too much tied up in WR $ as it is. I love him as a player and it would solve our Redzone issues, but it just can't happen money wise. We have to make room to resign some of our own players this offseason.

I saw the thread title and immediately thought "Patrick Willis". But you mean realistically acquire.

I understand bro, that would be part of the trade talks to re-do his existing contract.

even if the 49ers r getting some big guys back, i do not see why they would want to trade some of these defensive players.

depth is extremely important in the nfl, where players are getting hurt on a weekly basis, and the 49ers, even though at 3-3, prob r thinking the big picture.

the nfc is wide open this year, and while the 49ers have not looked so impressive this season, once they get these guys back on defense, they have the potential to be as good as anyone in the nfc.

doubt the 49ers r looking to unload guys at this point
