Would You Rather, Part II

I like Carlos Boogie Basham's potential as a non-first DE.

Yannick Ngakoue left $5 Million+ on the table to go to Minnesota for the winter. They can't negotiate with him until after the season so it's possible he shakes free from Minnesota. Patience might really pay off if we land him and 1. don't give up draft picks, 2. he doesn't get the money he probably should've after playing for a horrible Minnesota team.

If we start winning some games and end up out of the top 10, I don't think DE will be in the cards for the first round.

Right now my thinking would be impact defender's in R 1 and offensive help in R 2.

But an outstanding OT early would not bother me at all.

I could be talked into a WR in R 1 but not early and only if the board dictates it. Even then I would probably look to trade down.
I wonder what need Miami could fill in free agency? I haven't looked yet at who could be available, but the Dolphins could get one starter, I would think, at one of the positions of need.

Playmaker and Playmaker. You grabbed Tua now give him 1 extra piece.
Defense for me is Edge,LB or Free Safety in no particular order.I have always loved and coveted Miami to get someone who can play FS and we have hot garbage.

Free agency is going to be interesting since the Cap is going to go down, perhaps not as much as some are saying but it will decrease.

Some teams may find themselves forced to make cuts they would not have made under normal circumstances, so there may be more quality players on the market than is usual.

The Fins will have Cap space so they should be in a position to improve themselves.

Of course we have to wait to see who is actually available before we can talk about what areas they could target.

But it would be great to be able to find a Safety or an OT(maybe a C if they are not sold on Karras), freeing them up to really target a pass rusher early, even trading up if they need to.

I don't expect to be able to find an impact pass rusher in FA, they just don't find their way to the Market very often so you have to draft and develop your own.

I would love to add a legit big play WR to Tua's toy box but I don't want to do it early R 1.

They never seem to value that position.

He is interesting. Lots of potential pass rushers, but not sure there's one who really stands out. Roche might be the best, but he isn't a factor in the run game. Maybe Miami could use him like Van Noy???

I would also like to see Perry and Bowden and what they could add to this offense. I wasn't thrilled with the Bowden trade, but who knows.

I agree with you. If the Dolphins can nail down one of those positions, it narrows down what they need to do in the draft. Doesn't appear to be a great year for pass rushers/DE's, but you never know. That's been a position that Miami has struggled to identify in the draft. Heck, I might go back-to-back linebackers with those first two picks --- Parsons (if available), then Bolton or Moses. I feel really good about those three.

There was an article in one of the Miami papers last week outlining ways Miami could gain cap space by cutting susceptible players. There were several players who could be cut with No Cap Dead Money. Also mentions the typical cap cutting saving from certain players. If Miami becomes desperate, they could free up another $30m plus.

Does that include what we are rolling over or is it in addition to?
Our contract structures has returned to Aponte levels!

I think Howard and Ogbah are guys who can be cut without much Cap consequence.

From what I've seen about the cap, Miami was in good shape moving forward. Even with the spending spree, this past off season. The pandemic has thrown a monkey wrench into every sports leagues Financials. Miami's in decent shape with a good amount being carried over from 2020. They may still have to cut a few players to get a bigger cushion. I wouldn't expect a lot of big contracts. The player's need to be prepared for sticker shock!!!

Every single time that some rando poster suggested that we go out and get some expensive last minute free agent, I have cautioned... wait for next year, wait for next year... next year will be a buyers market because no one will have any money left.

Keep the powder dry for NEXT year.

This is an interesting thread - I tend to think that most of the successful organizations are dominant on one side of the ball. It becomes their identity.
With Tua, young OL core, Parker, Gesicki... I’m building around the Offense to build a dominant unit.
Give me:
Rd1: LSU or Bama WR
Rd 1: Oklahoma C or PSU TE
Rd 2: Clemson or Bama RB
I would buy a specialist Pass Rusher in FA

If Miami stays with the status quo, they be around $30m in cap space. Not sure what they are thinking, but a true NT or another DT for depth seem to stick out, as well as, a pass rusher. But as we all know pass rushers usually don't make it to F/A. It might be wiser to keep what they have and continue to build through the draft, for at least the 2021 season. Especially with several LB's/WR's that could help Miami in a huge way, potentially staring them in the face come draft day.

Unfortunately it's looking like a weak Edge class so we might have to stay patient. Plus Ogbah has been pretty impressive IMO. Even Rousseau is a bit of a gamble with only one year of production in college.

Tbh I wouldn't mind going for BPA (without completely ignoring need) even if it means 2 WRs or LBs in the first round. I'm coming round to the idea of Marvin Wilson DT in the 1st Round. I don't think it would be popular pick on this board but we need nastiness up front.
