It looks like Ricky is actually happy to be playing again and wants to stay a Dolphin. Granted we'll have to see how this year plays out, but if all goes well at the end of the year and he is still happy and doing well along with RB. Do we keep him? Looks like we'll have the cap space. I hate to what if but if he performs like Ricky then we could possibly be offered a mid to late first round pic for him. I know his contract is up but we could always do a sign and trade deal. I'm thinking we keep Ricky. Him and RB in the same backfield with Morris to back them up can cover up a lot, like say poor to average QB play. What are your opinions?

Unless it is an offer we can not refuse, keep him.

I've been saying all along: if Williams is a good soldier this year, he'll be rewarded with a trade to a place where he can start and be well paid to do so. So far, Williams is holding up his end of the bargain.

If we could get a 2nd round pick, I believe Saban would take it in a second. In fact, I think he'd take a 3rd and a later pick.

again....I hate to what if but here goes....what if Ricky is happy splitting time with RB and wants to stay here in Miami. I mean honestly its possible to have 2 RBs get over 1000 yrds, with the cap space we should have next year....don't you think we should keep him. I'm thinking unless someone offers a 1st rd pic for him, if he's happy lets sign him to a 3yr deal.

i think if the fins get a good offer, say a mid 3rd rounder, he is gone.

but i dont think teams will give up a 3rd for him. he is 1 positive test away from a year suspention. and he has stated he only plans to play football a few more years. his teammates wouldnt rely on him, cus he quit on his team a little while back.

there are just to many drawbacks. hes a very good RB, but i dout a team will trade a 1st day pick for him.

Well, given the cap room that we are rumored to have next year, why not ? If someone comes calling and offers a good trade/draft pick scenario, fine, but that isn't likely to happen given his history, his still being one test away from a year susp. and the issue of the repayment to the Fins.

If not, I think with a QB and some secondary people that we may be able to get next year, it could be an exciting time with RW...

How long does he have this "one more failed/missed test and its a year off" on him? Is this something that will be with him for the rest of his career or does it stop at some point?

i believe its for his carrer. (C. Rodgers is already screwed... )

but then again, i dont see Rickys carrer continuing more than 3 years anyways.

im attacking the post ======== its stupid

seriously....he is worth more to us than a 3rd round pic!!!

That may be what happens. The trade market for running backs has been terrible. The Seahawks or Colts would have taken a 2nd rounder for Alexander or James and no one was biting. The Titans swapped a 3rd for Travis Henry and got burned, which (while perhaps unfair) may make teams think twice about dealing for Williams.

We could see a situation where the best that's offered is a 4th or even 5th round pick, given the mileage and history Williams has. If that's the case, then maybe we do keep him for a couple years.

And I believe ch19079 is correct; the "pothead" tag affixed by the league to Williams is with him his whole career.

why would we take a 3rd rnd? u really think that a 3rd round rookie would have as much value as him?
the thing about draft picks is that they can BECOME great players. you can draft any player you want. you can fill any need on the team. and they are young, and will improve. they could become a probowler, or hall of famer.

ricky is a very good back, but IMO, he wont be in the NFL in 4 years. and maybe less than that if he fails another drug test.

true a 3rd round rookie wont do much this season, but teams like to look to the future.

ricky may have more value than a 3rd rouder to the fins, but not to any other organization. which is why i think a trade is VERY unlikly.

I believe the Dolphins own his rights for three years, encluding this season. Thats the length of his contract with the Dolphins, so I don't think he is a free agent at the end of the year. I believe he signed a five year deal in 2002 and has played two of his five seasons. Last season didn't count against, because he retired. Just because a player reitres, doesn't make him a free agent. The team still owns his rights for the number of years remaining on his deal. For example, if Barry Sanders decided to play again, he would have to play for Detroit or ask for his release or trade. The reason is because Barry was still under contract when he quit/retired.

Really? A guy who flaked out on the team, who's 1 toke away from a year-long suspension, and who has maybe two good years left in him is worth more than a 3rd round pick, which in Saban's hands would likely yield a quality defensive starter? You SURE about that, bro?

No.No.No! You got to assume Ricky has to and wants to pay his bills.... Ricky's value is WAY too high. He won the rushing title last time he played a full season, and no matter the personal issues...

If he gets good productivitiy this year....
he is still worth a HIGH 1st round pick....

I would only give him up for a "Matt Leinart, USC",

if not... pay him at a discount, keep him in Miami, and win games.
