Just heard one of the cronies say something about that in league circles Jeff Ireland's continued employment is more shocking than Matt Millen's was. That's pretty bad.

yeah just turned the TV on to that.

I bet he is just saying that when no one said that.

I am surprised Michael Silver mentioned this because it seems like the only things he has said all day was about minority hiring or criticizing Joe Banner.

I'm not a fan of Mike Silver after the vicious hit piece he put out on Raiders owner Mark Davis a couple of years ago. I felt it was totally over the top and some of it seemed like he was just carrying water for his boy Hue Jackson.

So I don't know how much of this is stuff he's just blowing out of his ass. To be honest, I'm flat out stunned that he's somehow employed by NFL Network after penning that piece.

The whole world is baffled, except the one holding the purse.

Although Ireland isn't quite as horrendous as Milllen was, any GM that spends over $200 million in one off-season and had the number of draft picks Ireland did in 2013, and the team still isn't improved (and in some areas, much worse), that is just cause for termination.

It's well known that around the league amongst his "peers" that Ireland is a laughingstock, everyone is amazed he is employed.

I don't think you can fire Ireland without firing Philbin. And vice versa.

Ireland has already survived one HC change. So that either eliminates the coach as the problem OR if Ireland is buying the groceries the coach ask for that implies the person hiring the coaches sucks.

In which case, Ross must fire himself.

If Ireland is fired and Philbin is retained, how does that change the locker room? Half time adjustments? Offensive game plans? OL Coach? OC? And that then leaves Philbin as a lame duck implying the new GM is just waiting until Philbin is fired before he implements his own decisions. How does this fix anything? It only convolutes the entire situation.

If you're not firing both, fire neither and let this play out until the entire team revolts.

Stop solving half of the problem. Mr. Ross, if you don't have the balls to make a decision, hire someone to advise you how to sell the team.

You see, the problem here is the exact problem I said to JTC111.

You fire everyone or Ireland and what are you replacing them with? You think Ross has been consulting with people to find a guy to come right in and take over for his guy Philbin?

Good luck with that. Might as well start all over right now and suck bad for one year with a bunch of rookies/2nd year guys playing key positions. The money has already been spent. Why keep Grimes when he will demand 9-10 mil at least and he is 31?

Why retain anyone? They let their coach down. They couldnt tackle and they couldnt catch a damn ball when it was right in their mits!

Im not sure why people are hesitant to believe that Ireland isnt respected around the league.

On top of his history of utter incompetence and all the controversy's he's been apart of, he could also be viewed as a two faced snake. Think the other owners were impressed when he followed Ross around like a lap dog while Sparano was being thrown under the bus? How about his entire history with Parcells? Sucking up to him then having an apparent nasty "divorce" so to speak. Other teams/owners are fully aware that if they were to hire Ireland he would likely turn on them the minute it suited his purposes(see: Hue Jackson and his inability to land a job with authority after his bald power grab in Oakland).

No doubt other teams in the league love having him employed because that gives them a better chance to win. But its also easy to see why they are baffled about how he has a job. I know i am.
I suspect some around the league have softened up about Millen in the last few years. He took responsibility and resigned, and he did land what most consider to be one of the more dominate players in the league(i have to say "most" because Finfan54 is posting in this thread and he believes Megatron hasnt made the Lions a better team). Which is not to say Millen will be working in the league again, but then again i doubt Ireland will ever get another job with actual authority if he is ever fired from here.
