Rishard Matthews - WR - Dolphins
The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero believes WR Rishard Matthews is not a favorite of Dolphins coach Joe Philbin.
The Palm Beach Post considered Matthews an early favorite for the starting slot receiver job over Brandon Gibson (knee surgery), but several reports have surfaced indicating the Dolphins are not high on Matthews. The latest sign is the selection of Jarvis Landry in the third round. Landry's lack of top-end speed will make him a better fit for a slot role in the NFL; the same role occupied by Matthews in 2014. He may find himself fighting for his job this preseason.

This is very disappointing to hear. We are not behind the scenes obviously. However, Matthews stepped in well last year for Gibson and made some huge catches.

I question Joe Philbin's ability to build relationships with players and be able to push and have players that are not "perfect" into productive players.

The title says he is not a favorite of Philbins than it says Armando 'believes' he is not a favorite.

Tool Armando at work.

I could give a rats ass who Joe Philbin is a fan of. He's a lousy coach in all facets of the profession.

Don't jump on Philbin because of Armando.

My point is not every player is perfect citizen or worker, but the player is talented and a staff can find a way to get production out of him.

Matthews is super talented and has the talent to replace Hartline, which I hope he will. But he did come out of Nevada with character and intelligence concerns. That's why he fell to the seventh round.

If they straight up cut him, though, they're fools. You don't cut guys with his kind of hands, speed, run after the catch and just overall natural football skills. You cut guys like BJ Cunningham, who was drafted ahead of Matthews, and was a top character guy. But just couldn't play. Or Clyde Gates, who was barely smart enough to tie his own shoes.

lol You know what I don't question? You're ability to speculate and bash Joe Philbin at every opportunity.

Matthews has forgotten which routes to run on occasion during games and hasn't been a guy known for studying film and putting in the time to watch game tape of opponents.

I agree. If he can play let him play and produce regardless but we don't know how true this story is.

The jury is still out on Philbin. No more excuses get it done.

It's Armando the PB Post says he is the replacement for Hartline our beat writers just want to make news with no real knowledge based on opinions
