The NY Jets are playing really bad football.
All of their key players are slumping big time.
Brett Favre, in my opinion, despite all his past success, is pretty much done. His much weaker arm strength added with his go-for-it-all, gun-slinging mentality is not a good combination. That's a sure recipe for INTs, frustrated wide receivers, and dink and dunk type passes.
Kris Jenkins was another big time player the Jets acquired. Through the first 3/4 of the season, the guy has been playing lights out, pretty much unstoppable. It is pretty obvious the man has run out of steam. One could see that by looking at how much the Jets run defense has suffered in the last few games. Their pass rush has also not been a factor because of Jenkins dissapearance in games. This has made the bad Jets secondary even worse as of late.
The only consistency on the Jets team in my opinion is their offensive line. They have helped Thomas Jones become one of the better backs in the NFL season. I think Jones could have a nice game versus a Miami defense which has given up a lot of yards during these past few games. Ironically though, I dont see Jones as the biggest threat on this team. Sure' he'll get his yards, as did guys like Steven Jackson of the Rams and Larry Johnson of the Chiefs and the Fins still came out victorious. Not to mention, I could definitely see the Fins do to the Jets what many teams originally did to the Fins at the beginning of the year which is, stack the box and make Favre beat them. Hmm, never thought I'd say that. I personally don't think Favre could beat us deep anymore, especially with guys like Will Allen and Andre Goodman, especially Goodman, playing at such a high level.
The one guy who I think could absolutely destroy us, and destroy any team for that matter is the little guy. Mr. Leon Washington. The guy is lightning in a bottle. Whether its kick returns, screens, or swing passes, the guy could take it to the house from anywhere at anytime. The Jets and their screen passes have killed us in the past and I think the screen pass, especially with an uncharacteristically bad Brett Favre throwing, could be the Jets go-to play. Look at the Seattle game for instance, stupid Mangina decides to not use Washington in the game and their offense sputters, scoring only 3 points. Leon Washington is the AFC's version of Reggie Bush. No true position, but put him on the field and he'll do something special.
Special teams play will be crucial to a Fins victory. Luckily for us, our special teams play has been much improved from the beginning of the year, but just a little opening for Washington and the man could be gone.
Honestly, offensively, I'm not worried about the Fins. As long as we have Pennington at the helm, I believe we'll be okay. The guy has THREE straight games with a QB rating of over a 100. Incredible. He seems to be playing better, more intelligent football as the season progresses, if that's even possible.
So keys to the game:
-Stop Leon Washington!
-Play Dolphins style football
-Control the time of possesion
-Long, effective, defensive-draining drives
-No turnovers
-Throw in a special wildcat play or two
I really think it's that simple. People like to talk about how the Jets own us. People need to realize half of this roster, the front office, our coach are all NEW. The history does not matter at this point.
