Xavien Howard Is he worth 75 million

Howard is fine. Corners do get beat.
He may not be that Revis Island corner, but c'mon.

Just a bad game, he erased Josh Gordon last week now he sucks? He dominated Cooper last season as well. He’ll be fine guys.

This forum decides players careers in a vacuum. Had one bad game and he sucks.

He had a bad game. It happens.

Jalen Ramsey has given up 3 touchdowns this year. In 2019 a true lockdown corner is no more.

Exactly. That's why the tall, long, rangy CBs are way more valuable nowadays then the traditional build. Being a playmakers and getting turnovers is where you deliver the most value.

Cooper is top 5 WR in league, but this is far from an equal matchup. Howard is our CB1, but he's still only top 15 or so CB in the league.
Howard was 2nd team All Pro last season, Cooper was an injury replacement in the Pro Bowl. No need to prop up Cooper because Howard had a bad day.

Howard is overpaid if you consider his coverage skills vs other elite corners and what they are paid. Part of the reason he has so many INTs is because opposing QBs have never been afraid to throw at him. Yes, he has had some great games. However, he has been routinely beat by elite WR through out his career. By no means do I believe he is not a great player. He is simply a top 15 CB coverage wise and he’s getting paid like he’s Gilmore/Ramsey.

No CB in the league is going to win a matchup when the receiver constantly has time to run double moves. That's exactly why pass rush, of which we have none, is important.

This is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.

Cooper went back to his old self once he got out the Oakland dumpster in 2018. Showed last year he can be a difference maker once again and is off to another very good year so far.

Now, is he a top 5 guy?
Nope, there's a lot of special talent at WR these days but he's a legit #1 receiver with excellent route running skills and speed.
Can make a case for top 10, near the back.

i like X, felt the last couple of years he's been a really good corner... think he got a couple of his int's delivered to him. So like him...yes, been saying that awhile. Think he's elite...no, been saying for a while that i felt the int's were half right place/right time. I think he can hang with any WR in the top 10-20 range, and can lock down everyone 21 below, top 5 we can expect to give him fits, especially with 0 pass rush. The slow double move that completely lost x on the longer throw was all around horrible tho

Without a doubt, this is such an overreaction thread.

Cooper is a top 5 WR, he is gonna win some battles in man, especially with our lack of pass rush. X is holding his own

Not to be a smart a$$, but Cooper is barely a top 20 WR. His best season as a pro, his second year, he beat Jarvis Landry by like 15-yards. Let's not get carried away.

To be fair to X, it should be noted that most "great" players are not as great as most fans think. Look at Jalen Ramsey, he's lusted over by every fan base because people think he's better, much better than he actually is when considering analytics and game film. He graded out as the 28th best CB last year. He's been much worse this year. If you watched TNF you saw him burned on a 45-yard completion, in man to man (his beef with Marrone was apparently his belief he was being misused in zone) to freaking Tajae Sharpe, the Titans 4th receiver. There are no more Deions or Michael Hayneses or Lester Hayeses anymore because the rules have been changed.

Howard gets $10M this year (15th highest paid CB in 2019) and $13M next year (11th highest paid in 2020). How is that not a fair deal for Miami? Its not like its 2010 where $10M is a lot. Its 2019 and $10M isnt ****.

Not sure why people are so fuzzy about that contract. Only 27 Mill are guaranteed. Technically if we want to trade him next year and we designate it as a post 6/1 trade our dead cap hit is only 1.5 in 2020 and 4.8 Mill in 2021.
In 2021 he becomes tradeable and cutable with our total dead cap hit at 4.2 Mill in any scenario.

It is a great contract for a very good player and if he becomes what we hope (a defense build around him) he is a bargain because he will never see the end of this contract and he will be on our roster for 3 or 4 years.
