Hey everybody. It's been a long time--I had been involved in a production of Fiddler on the Roof that essentially sucked away my time for the last two-three months.
Rest assured though it hasn't prevented me from keeping up with Miami, no matter how painful it has been. The only game I did not see live or on DVR was the Packers game as I was performing at the time and it wasn't on local television.
Kind of a frustrating season really, but looking better now. Unlike last year, which was much more exciting early, it's been filled with colossal breakdowns against inferior opponents and crushing comebacks fallen short.
That said, a win Thursday (which with this year's squad is by no means a gimme, but still winnable), we could pull to 5-6, something unthinkable months earlier.
The Vikings game was fun...I attended and am still sunburnt. The beads Publix gave to the fans were kinda goofy...I ripped my first set of beads in celebration of Jason Taylor's touchdown and almost lost my leather hat.
Thoughts on the game:
1. There were WAY too many Vikings fans in the stadium.
2. Thankfully they had little to cheer for.
3. Miami's rush defense settled down, however the pass defense, while VASTLY improved from last year, still has a few soft spots in it. Still, they're playing a hell of a lot better than I could have imagined this year.
4. Our offense is good at racking up yards, but not completing drives. I almost think they feel excessive pressure and overcompensate when in the red zone.
5. Welker finally had an off day, although he still did have that 30+ yard completion.
6. Joey is definitely progressing as a QB, but he can be maddening with the silly interceptions.
7. I have to wonder if there's something wrong with Joey's handoffs or Brown's reception of said handoffs. This isn't the first botched handoff exchange on the year.
8. Chambers is officially invisible this year. Welker is the leading receiver. Chambers was open on a few occasions however where Joey didn't see him. Nobody mention the negated TD-it was obvious Minnesota gave up on the play when they saw the laundry on the field (Childress should have reamed them for that).
9. I disagree with Mularkey's gameplan to throw as much as he did. The reason Minnesota threatened so much in the second half is that they had established the run early (though Miami quickly shut it down) and passing lanes were open. It became easy to shut down Miami's passing lanes when it became obvious they weren't going to run. When you run every 7 or 8 plays, your RB can't get into any rhythm. I'm not saying they should have had a run dominated offense, but without running you can't even sell a playfake.
10. Jason Taylor is a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year.
