I`m a big fan of Bell and I, like a lot of people, think he will have an outstanding season. Is he going to play out the year and test free agency or can the Dolphins sign him to a long term deal? If they can tie him up then when can they do it, and, why would they be waiting?

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question. Over this side of the pond we all understand the game but l haven`t quite got my head around the salary cap, dead money, how bonus money is accounted for etc etc I say this as I suspect it may have some bearing on the Bell contract situation?

Bell could test free agency next year as that is an option for him. He was given a second round tender this year but no team thought he was worth that much.

They may be waiting to see if he can step up his game and become a consistent performer this year before attempting to sign him to a long term deal.

they tried to sign bell to a long term deal but couldn't agree so he signed the tender of 1.3 million..they can sign him long term at anytime..if he's playing well this season, i'm sure they'll sign him to an extension..i think mueller wants to see how he plays this year and drew rosenhous is his agent..

He has a nack or being around the ball. If he plays well I am not opposed to placing another tender on him and getting a 2nd for him to pick up a younger, possibly better safety or corner. God knows we need the help at the corner position

Thanks, I wasn`t sure if he could be signed during the season. In the soccer Premier League over here you can only sign players before the season starts, or, during a mid season transfer `window`. I`m hoping we can wrap up Bell long term, or, if he goes in a year then at least get a 2nd for him.

Bell probably knows he's going to break out this year because of playing time, so he refused to sign a long term offer. Smart move on both sides (Miami trying to lock him in, Bell holding out for more money).

IMO he needs an outstanding year to deserve that longterm contract. He's a solid blitzing safety but a liability in coverage most times. If he can improve on that than he will be worth the longterm investment.

Most of the fans on the American side of the pond don't understand all that salary cap stuff either. That's why every team needs to have a full time "capologist" on staff to give advice to the GM and everyone else.

"Meet the capologist.

Part banker, part coach. Part mathematician, part salesman. Part lawyer, part magician. Charged with balancing the desires of the coaching staff against an ever-present bottom line, the capologist is the ultimate multi-tasker, able to juggle intricate contracts, super-sized egos, demanding agents and enough numbers to make Donald Trump dizzy."

i personally think bell is overrated

go ahead, roast me

I agree that he is overrated amongst alot of people here, much like Welker was. He makes some decent plays and some of those really stand out but he needs to be more consistent and work on his coverage skills.

because the underbelly has a suculent flavor.................

whoops sorry

jk

Well we will have to see this season. He has never started an entire season and this will be his first shot to show us what he has. You cannot disagree that he has done well with the chances that he has been given

bc people here are talking about giving him an extension...

i think hes average at best

I mentioned this earlier but if he is consistent and proves himself I wouldnt be opposed to trading him for a 2nd. As it stands right now I think he is worth a 3rd.
