The past several years many on this board were deadset against siging an offensive lineman in the first round of the draft. Now (because of one dismal season of oline play) it seems that many people are all for drafting an offensive lineman in the first round. Well I havent changed my mind at all. If it ain't a LT then I DO NOT WANT AN OLINEMAN IN THE FIRST ROUND. I want guys that score TD's or Stop the other TD scorers from scoring TD's. It's not that i don't think oline is important because i do.. I just feel like a good GM should be able to find a starting caliber olineman in the 2-5 rounds. Im curious... how many of the perennial playoff teams use first round pics on interior offensive lineman when they have needs at other positions, like TE, WR, QB, CB, LB, DE etc... FYI... I'm ok with drafting a guy to initially play RT with plans to move him to LT in the near future but no guards or guys that can't play LT

Changing your opinion based on the circumstances is just human nature. It's also not necessarily contradictory.

For instance, I believe that placing emphasis on the offensive line and neglecting other positions is a bad idea. However, I also understand that our former GM left our new GM with a rather unique mess to clean up. I would love to see this team draft a seam busting tight end in the first round. I would love to see us draft one of the best WR prospects. I would love to see us grab a playmaking safety or linebacker. But... we got problems on that OL, and with the new CBA, addressing it through the draft allows salary cap space to be spent on playmakers elsewhere.

I would be OK with taking a right tackle or an elite guard prospect at 19.

Your allowed to change your opinion after years of bad oline play. You want a flip flopper look at some of these guys who said tannehill was a franchise guy around the time we beat the patriots and now can't say anything good about him

Things change man. By far the biggest needs on offense, maybe on the team, are at OG and RT. Therefor it makes sense for us to fill those positions any way possible including the draft.

I think people finally realized you can have all the weapons in the world but a QB with no time can't deliver the ball.

A RB with no lanes can't run.

Decent corn fed.

So if you buy a stock and it goes well for a while, but things start trending down and the forecast is for that trend to continue. Are you not allowed to sell it because circumstances have changed or do you have to keep it and lose everything?

So, with your philosophy, we should have passed on Mike Pouncey? That lineman picked seems to have worked out.

Im sure that most of us would say that we dont WANT to draft an O Lineman in the first, but sometimes it is necessary .

I don't think so. I remember clearly last year there were some of us that said we needed to get an OT in the first, because that was what Ireland stuck us with. Of course, we were in the minority...right...but the minority...

I still dont want an olineman first at 19, but I won't rip anyone for changing their mind. Especially after last year's mess.

I wouldn't say that they are flip floppers.

Most of them basically just read what that idi0t @ the herald writes and then that becomes their opinion.

This year he writes we should draft O-linemen. :err:

Things change from year to year, and from month to month, game to game. If you aren't constantly evaluating and postioning in the NFL, you won't get better than 8-8. Everyone wants the luxury to add playmakers, but we need Olinemen badly.
