The double standard among the Dolphin fanbase is unbelievable! I thought Raider fans were bad, but you guys take the cake!
Consider these facts....
Chad Henne's stats got worse each year in college, yet all I hear are excuses about the drop off of talent at Michigan, or how they didn't open up the playbook for him. So what! He still got worse each year. In college, you are supposed to improve!
John Beck gets thrown to the wolves as a ROOKIE QB who, prior to starting, only had 1 week working with the 1st team and he gets throttled by Miami fans because he had a few too many fumbles. Despite the fact that his passing stats were better than the QB's he faced and despite the fact that Cam "didn't open up the palybook for him".
So let me get this straight... Beck, a rookie in the NFL with most of his practice reps coming from working with the scout team prior to his first start, has basically the same excuses that Henne has, who is a Senior QB playing against college opponents, most of whom will never even sniff the NFL. Henne gets a pass, while Beck gets calls for his head.
Last year, despite having excellent numbers coming out of college (far superior to those of Henne by the way), the critics were already lining up prior to Beck even showing up to camp. Member of this board were saying he should sit as a rookie and have time to develop, even if it meant that Cleo the Horrible would start.
This year, Henne, who's worst year was his senior year, is now suddenly "The Man" with people claiming he has the tools to start this year. Are you guys nuts?
If you are going to make excuses for people, then at least use the same excuses across the board and apply them in equal fashion. I especially love the "They didn't open up the entire playbook for Henne" excuse as to why he was just average his senior year. How affording Beck the same excuse. Afterall, it's true isn't it?
Or there is this one.... Henne played against tougher competition in college, so it's not fair to judge his stats against Becks while he was in college. Well, to that I say, Beck played with lesser talent around him, so it shouldn't matter. Look at the stats against common opponents. There are at least three teams that each of them faced in the same year. Beck's numbers agains the same competition (with lesser talent around him even) blow Henne's away! The fact is that no matter what the statistics show, Beck haters will always find some way of justifying their dislike for him.
