Just to put things in perspective, here are some numbers from other young QB's when they first started out.

Philip Rivers - His first 4 games (over 2 seasons) he was 17 of 30 for 148 yds with 1 TD & 1 Int.

Eli Manning - His first 9 games (2004) he was 95 of 197 for 1043 yds with 6 TD & 9 Int.

Joe Flacco - His first full season he was 257 of 428 for 2971 yds with 14 TD & 12 Int.

Carson Palmer - His first 13 games (2004) he was 263 of 432 for 2897 yds with 18 TD & 18 Int.

My point is that we should give Henne a full season's chance to see what we have. By the end of the year, we should know if we need to search for another QB option, or shift our focus to finding a playmaking WR at all costs.

I am excited to see how Henne progresses for the rest of this year, and I am prepared to take the lumps that will come along with his learning curve. The Dolphins will be a better football team over the long term because Henne is getting his shot now.

I think Henne will benefit tremendously from a week of first team reps & tailored game planning.

I think so too. I think it should now be HENNE time all the time. It's time to move on.

The irony of the wildcat, is that we run it so that defenses spend too much time preparing for it, but it looks like our Offense is spending too much time working on it. :d-day:

I LIKE the running plays from the wildcat, but our O has to be able to pass the ball more thna just 5 yards at a clip.

Good point and coming in in the middle of the game is not usally a bonanza for a young qb in his first action. Brady,Rivers, Roth and others did not excel.

Flacco was pretty horrid early in the year last year and ended up doing solid overall. Very good for a rookie. Through his first 5 starts Flacco had 1 td and 7 int with a passing rating in the 40's. Lets give Henne at least a couple of games before proclaiming him a bust. Imagine if we had drafted Flacco last year and he started out with those numbers. We would have crucified him.

Agreed, and I think we would all be happy with Flacco at this point.

I agree that the reps in practice and game planning will help. I'm still concerned about the OL being able to pick up the blitz, but that would be the same no matter which QB.

Reps with the first team this weeks practice should also reduce the number of false starts. I remember a couple when Henne took over. But was 2 pitchers in at the time so I don't remember the cause.

I think our oline has gotten better but I'm sure teams will throw some "kitchen sink" blitzes at us. That will be part of Henne's job to recognize the blitz and get the protection and routes adjusted pre-snap. This is probably one of the hardest things for a young qb to learn..... mainly because you have to get in there and learn it from experience. If Henne is still playing for the Jets game he will experience about every kind of blitz that can be ran out of a 3-4. Rex Ryan is an arrogant blow hard but he is one of the top 2 or three blitzing defensive minds in the game right now. Playing that team would give Henne a good bit of experience against dealing with the blitz.

I share the concern about the OL. Teams are going to blitz us until we prove that our OL can pick it up, and until Henne starts beating the blitz with quick releases and completions.

I'm really glad he gets to face Buffalo first. The Jets game is probably going to be a nightmare. They made Matt Schaub, Tom Brady, & Kerry Collins look ordinary this year. What chance does Henne have.

It will be a great learning experience for him though, and will be a great test of character as well.

Now that he is in.. He should start for the rest of the season. Absolutely FORGET putting White at the QB position in the Wildcat. He'll be more sucessful lined up as a WR IMO.

Penny needs tons of reps while live bullets are flying. It would be awesome to just chuck it down the field on the open drive. One can only dream.

how hard it is to prepare to let ronnie run the ball up the middle or hand it to ricky ? seriously !

I hope we don't try to lean on the wildcat too much. I think Henne needs to get in a rythym with the base offense.

Guess I should have made a more catchy thread title...
