what do you guys see as the oline being next year? dont go crazy putting like 3 FAS, but ith maybe 1 draft pick and one FA, what do you guys see it as?

this is what id hope to see....

LT - andrew whitworth(2d round)/damian macintosh
LG - jeno james
C - lecharles bentely
RG - rex hadnot
RT - Vernon carey

i think this line would be the best match. sign bentely to anchor the line, draft whitworth to come in and be our tackle of the future, but with mcintosh stil here in case he doesnt develop as quick as one would hope....
mckinney would kept around as insurance.....what do you think? do all of you think mcintosh could/should remain the starting left tackle for all of next season? what draft pick would you or would you not like to see?

Sounds great to me. We could go with other options at LT as well, but whitworth is also a good choice. The LeCharles Bentley acquisition is a must. I think, if he is not re-signed by N.O. before free agency period begins, he have to be relentless in pursuing him. This line would be so much better with him.

Who would be of more benefit to us, Bentley or Hutchinson? Would we be better off with Hadnot at center?....Alot of ways we could benefit.
I hope I spelled the names right, so I don't get my hands slapped with a ruler.

What about Albai (sp???) at LT. I think Saban & Hudson brought him in for a reason...you think:D

not withowrth isn't he suppose to be a project or a year of work? no thanks. rather spend the 2nd ona starter then a project. I'd take alabi at LT, hadnot at G, bentley at C, james or hutch at G, and RT not sure. there have been resports of miami looking to upgrade the C and both Tackle positions in 06.

Whitworth isn't really a project. McNeil is more of a project than he is. Whitworth would be a great player to have at either LT or RT.

I think Whitworth will be a good tackle, on either side. I would really love to see Alabi eliminate the need to find another tackle. :dolphins:

im sorry but there is no way that id be even close to comfortable with alabi as our starter at LT.....hell id be more comfortable with mcintosh as our starter....alabi is the definition of project....hell end up providing good depth and maybe one day more, but not anytime soon...

whitworth is not a project, hed be ready to start if given the chance day 1 and probably do a good job. The amazing thing in this draft is that there are so many good LTs available that some of them might spill into the second round. depending on the combine, you know theres no way that 6-7 tackles are taken in the first round, so one of the elite tackles (winston, scott, justice mcneil, colledge, scott) has a very good chance of falling into the second. there is no established no.2 tackle behind brick yet.....but one of thsoe tackles might fall, along with the other tackles who arent first round talents but are very solid (whitworth, trueblood, o'callaghan)

there are so many upper tier tackles that if one is available we should jump on them....i believe any of these would be ready to step in and at least challenge mcintosh for the job.....(and should come in and be more polished than alabi by a lot) I say whitworth cause of the lsu connection....Saban already knows whether or not hes worth looking at....

seperate question......what do you guys know about jeff backus? hes the lions LT thats up for FA....i dont think they let him go but if they do, what do you think about picking him up? i think he could be a solid addition and finally solidify our LT spot, and allow us to look elsewhere.....

All this Andrew Whitworth talk reminds me of all the Ben Wilkerson talk last year. I wonder if the coaching staff is glad we used a pick on Wilkerson? Oh, that's right, we didn't. In fact, we didn't even make a serious offer as an undrafted free agent...

LT - Vernon Carey
LG - Jeno James
C - LeCharles Bentley
RG - Rex Hadnot
RT - A big @$$ runblocking RT... FA or Draft

Your absolutely right CK. However, I can see us going after Laron Landry or Darnell Bing which would make me very happy.

hell yea! i love em both and especially bing for his hitting ability and intimate some of those WR that run through the middle of our field all teh time ala MARVIN HARRISON did for years and years. (we play em next year! you konw waht that means, good game and especially for CC as he plays his best vs taht team)(hope i didnt jinx anything liek that guy last week about the INT) lol

See now Laron Landry plays a position where Saban would actually favor his own guys. Anyone on defense from LSU already knows Saban's D like the back of his own hand. This applies to DT Claude Wroten, OLB Cameron Vaughn, DT Kyle Williams, and SS Laron Landry. Any of those guys could be ready to make bigger contributions as rookies strictly because they already know and have had success in Saban's defensive scheme...just like Travis Daniels.

And, unlike the OL, Saban actually IS a defensive genius so the man knows exactly what to look for top to bottom and would probably defer to nobody on the staff.

In short, Saban showed that last year he favored guys that he coached with or against at just about every position EXCEPT o-line.

So all these fan mocks that have Whitworth in them (which I would have to say probably constitutes 80% of fan mock drafts at the moment) ya'll should take note that if you're banking on Saban to get at least one LSU player in the draft, that player should PROBABLY be either Wroten, Williams, Vaughn, or Landry...with an outside shot that it's Skyler Green (cuz Mueller looooves speed too). Whitworth is there, but we're only gonna take him if Houck takes a shine to the guy.

I have always been high on Landry, and definatly see him as a real possiblity in the 1st... but Cameron Vaughn is a guy I really think Saban is gunna get a steal with. He would fit perfect in our defense at OLB especially with Seau not around next year. He is real big (6'4 240) and quick too. And like you said, he already knows the system so he can contribute immediatly. I see him being our 3rd round steal again following the Crowder pick... With Crowder and Zach in the middle... and Vaughn and Jason Taylor on the outside... we have a perfect mix of vet and youth... not to mention stacked with talent.

Yup, I've been bangin the swiss army drum on Vaughn for a couple weeks now. What was throwing me off was that none of these draft sites have the dude rated highly. Mel Kiper recently said he could go in the 2nd or 3rd, though.
