This thread http://www.finheaven.com/showthread.php?376721-Worst-Dolphins-QB-Ever-Most-hated-Lets-be-thankful! gave me an idea. While I was revisiting some of our horrible QBs post Marino I came across a couple games which are burned into memory like they happened yesterday. Championships always trump as the greatest moments ever but what if your team struggles for almost 2 decades. What memories will you take away. 20 years, an entire generation who grew up knowing nothing but misery as a Dolphins fan. What are the defining moments which kept that generation being a Dolphins fan.
The most memorable moment could be positive or negative.
My honorable mention is the win against Baltimore to avoid an 0-16 season but my top 3 are:
3. Monday Night Miracle (negative); losing to the Jets in the Meadowlands after leading 30-7 in the 4th quarter.
2. Last playoff win (against Colts); coming back from 14 down to win in OT
But my #1 is -
It was a beautiful December night in Florida. Monday Night football came to town. The 2-11 Dolphins were facing the 12-1 NE Patriots, defending Champion and battling for 1st place in the AFC with the Pittsburgh Steelers. A blowout in the making? Ricky quit on them just days before the season started. Starting QB not playing. Coach quit. An unknown interim coach (Bates) facing his worst nightmare: a struggling franchise facing a superior division rival with an entire Nation watching in a sold out game. In a desperate move the Dolphins brought out the Orange jersey which was worn a year earlier for the first time in a magical Sunday Night comeback win against the Redskins.
That December night the stadium was sold out. The crowd young, energetic, enthusiastic, raucous and loud. That night was advertised by the local media as "Orange Night" and a lot of Orange was to be seen. It was the night to be known as "The Night That Courage Wore Orange"
