all-star is based on how the player is performing this year? he is playing the best out of all pf's in the west

He's got the best numbers, but he's definitely not playing the best basketball.

All-star games are popularity contests. Garnett/Duncan/Dirk are going to be on the team and I think they deserve it over Randolph. If your just going by stats it's definately misleading. Is it Duncan or Dirk's fault that they make the players around them better? Also I think Carlos Boozer gets a spot before Randolph.
