looking at out two ILB, Crowder and Ayodele, none are definate startes for dolphins next year. Good chance Crowder will not get the overpriced contract he wants and Akin i dont believe is long term answer even next yrs answer.

So bearing this in mind, why didnt keep Zach Thomas???????????????????????

I know he is not the prototypical ILB for 3-4, but coming out of college he dropped because he was not the prototypical big ILB..................................
but look at his no.'s.

I understand the injury concern, but we had ths cap room and he was big influence and as opposed to JT a gd influence in the locker room.

I know BP loves to clean house, but i wont believe that looking at our team, that ZT would not have been the leading tackler this year.

He would have brought young guys through and help rebuild as opposed to letting him go to rebuild, due te the fact i stated prev, crowder and Akin are not long term answers.

ZT was not the way the franchise wanted to move. He is not a 3-4 ILB. He was undersized for a pro ILB for sure, but, that can be hidden in a 4-3.

i think we getting too stereo typical, even with capers 3-4 defence Zach was leading tackler and he in 3-4 now in dallas playing well.

Zach is in a position where his next concussion could leave him a vegetable. I think that was the primary reason we let him go, and I think the hope was that he would retire and take care of his health. I like to think they offered him a coaching position though, although he played 4 years with Crowder and Channing never really got better until Zach was gone.

And he is way too small for the defense Ireland is trying to build. Jeff stressed coming in that we were going to build with prototypical size and speed, and Zach isn't close to either. He always put up great numbers because he was always around the ball, but an awful lot of those tackles were half tackles because he just wasn't big and strong enough.

I love the guy as a player, but with his lack of size and speed and his huge salary, and the reasonable expectation that we would only get 8 or so games out of him, letting him go was the right move.

i agree with the reason given, i just dont agree with the reason.

the reason he is going for size and strength is to get people to the ball...............to make tackles. If you tell me Zach would not have been our leading tackler this year..................again ill disagree with you.

Zach was let go b/c he is a 35 year old player. You don't rebuild a team with old players. That is the bottom line. Zach said it himself, Parcells told him he was 35 so he had to go.

IT was what was best for both parties. No hard feelings. Sure Zach prolly would have been doing great for us this year but nobody knew we would be doing this well. The FO was obviously thinking about the future and Zach, while a great player in the past (and even the present), is not the future of this team.

Also, this franchise needed a new start. The 2 main faces were ZT and JT. It's hard to let go and start a new when you have 2 such dominate figures in the locker room. I love both of them, and they will always be Dolphins, but it was time to move forward, so they had to go.

I love Zach, but I think letting him go was the right thing to do ( which I thought otherwise at the beginning of the season ) For one, we needed our young guys to build their own chemistry, and Joey Porter certainly helped lead that spark to ignite the spirit you see on this young D week in and week out. With Zach here, I personally believe that our guys wouldn't be hyped up to the extent that they are now, it'd just be different.

One of the things i dont care for in the Parcell's paradigm is his archetypes of defensive players. He'll take somone who is statistically worse than another, less "sized" player. It seems counter-intuitive to me, but hey i'm not the guy building championship teams now am i?

How many times have we seen a guy who didn't put up good numbers move to another team and do great? How many times has that happened to us?

BP's whole thing is that if a guy is big enough, strong enough, fast enough, and works hard enough, he can be a successful player in this league. That, and beating the snot out of other teams is the way you win championships. It's all about building around a system instead of a couple of players.

Building our entire defense around Zach and JT was not a solid long term strategy, and I'm glad we got away from it. Now all we need is to find players that fit, and we're doing that.

I guarantee that one of those LBs will be starting in the middle next year the coachs really like Channing Crowder so i think we are going to sign him to a long term contract this offseason im not saying it is going to be a huge Contract eather

Age plays a huge factore

we are rebuilding, so we need young talent and draft picks...also cap room

this is the reason why we gave up guys like JT and ZT

Sell high
