Trade Rumor?

I don't think a trade for Allen would be crazy at all. His base salaries the next two years would be $14M in 2024 and $15.5M with about $1.5M each year in roster and workout bonuses, so I think the post-trade cap hits would be $15.5M and $17M. If the Dolphins did the deal I suspect they would want to extend him for a year to two, which would likely reduce those cap hits.

Wilkins' 2024 cap number is around $10M, but after that the next 3 years are over $30M, so the Allen contract is substantially cheaper than what Wilkins got or what the Dolphins were reportedly willing to pay Wilkins. The Dolphins will get a bunch of cap space after June 1 and then more if/when they extend Tua. If the cost is equal to or less than the anticipated 3rd round comp pick they got for Wilkins they'd be "effectively" trading Wilkins for Allen and a substantial amount of extra cap space in 2025 and thereafter (if extended).

Allen is a very good player.

Dyami Brown is a deep threat WR. Loved him at North Carolina. Bad fit in Washington. He'd be dangerous in McDaniel's system and with Tua throwing to him.
You'd have to think "if" Brown were part of that equation there would have to be a WR going back to the Commandoes from our side. I got the hee-bee jeebies when we doubled down on WR's in the draft, then sign OBJ, could Cheetah or Waddle be in play here? Yikes....

While Kyle Crabbs is phenomenal, most Locked On podcasts are absolute garbage and as amateur as anything any of us can cook up in about an hour’s time.

Need a better source. Looks like they just stole a suggestion from Kyle and turned it into a rumor.

Kyle Crabbs had this idea months ago. It’s probably where this guy got the idea since they are both “Locked On” guys.

Don’t listen to him but think it’s more plausible now after they drafted Newton who some had as a top 15 grade. Know he’s injured might not play this year but could see why they’d be more open to trying Allen now.

Take it for what it’s worth but possibly for Jonathan Allen. Replacement for Wilkins at a slightly decreased price than what he got. Same age might be better pass rusher but not as good in run defense. Washington paying another high end DT Daron Payne 20+ million so possibility that 2 high priced DT’s aren’t needed in their new DC’s scheme.

Why would Miami let Wilkins go and then turn around and give up probably a first rounder to get this guy, and then pay him when they wouldn't pay Wilkins. Makes no sense, especially giving up the high pick, when u could have kept Wilkins and not given up the pick. Sounds like baloney to me

I would say that this appears to be a situation where a couple of internet flacks are trying to dish off a couple of bad contracts.

Brown has been a one trick pony since he entered the league... go deep. A slightly more talented Braylon Sanders. I absolutely can not imagine trading for a guy who has accomplished so little AND is in the last year of his contract when we already have so many quality WRs in camp.

This suggestion alone makes me scoff at the 'report'.

Then you add in Allen... who is a bit older than Sieler, is probably a bit worse and who makes 50% more than Zach???

Really??? How much of that contract is Washington prepared to eat? Half?

This 'trade idea' is a complete non starter. Just a horrible idea.

No thanks... times ten.

I don’t think it’d cost anywhere near a 1st. On top of that he’s locked in cheaper than Wilkins at 21 and 23 million next two years. Offering him an extension with decent guaranteed and I think you can get him at 17/18 million which I think is closer to what Miami wanted to pay Wilkins in the first place.

what round pick would you give up for him? if he is making 21 and 23mm, why would he take an extension that drops his salary to 17/18mm? and if you give him that money, given we are already badly up against it, what other positions on the roster do you want to sacrifice to add the DT? maybe have no OL? i do not get this one, sounds like someone looking for clicks. might make sense for another team, i cannot make sense of this one for the dolphins

As a UNC alum I saw every game he played. Deep threat, good route runner with really good hands. Not sure why we would need him or be willing to trade for him.

i cant old school GIF

OMG, this can't be real!

trading for a WR makes zero sense for us.....it'll be hard to find enough snaps/targets as it is.....as for Allen, we don’t need yet another player making over 30mill a year.

Maybe 2025 and 2026 4ths?

As for the contract, he has no bargaining tools with two years left as well as only 12 million guaranteed left. Tomorrow isn’t promised in the nfl, he can risk playing on a decent salary with little guaranteed however a bad injury would leave him with nothing coming in but the 6 million he’s guaranteed next year. Offering him say a 2 year extension and reworking current 2 years to be say 4 year 70 million with 45 guaranteed would ensure he gets much more money with much less risk. Would be a no brainer for him and his agent.

Agreed, they should have chosen a different team for their fantasies
