Trade Rumor?

Listening to the post sounds like he's saying he's heard Miami and Washington has engaged in trade talks and then he just came up with some names that he thought it might involve. From the way it sounded, it could be anything or nothing. The Commanders may have called and asked about trading Channing Tindall. The Dolphins might have called asking about a guard. It could literally be anything and just a surface conversation.
Washington might be offering a $20.00 Big Mac for Tindall. The Dolphins are probably holding out for a big fries too.

We're going to have the Xavien Howard money available in a couple of weeks. However, I doubt that we trade for Jonathon Allen (and we probably don't need Dyami Brown).

If we’re going to make a trade, DT is probably the right position, and Jonathan Allen is the right skill set. But that price tag is way too high.

David Onyemata is the guy I’d try to pry loose.

While Kyle Crabbs is phenomenal, most Locked On podcasts are absolute garbage and as amateur as anything any of us can cook up in about an hour’s time.

Need a better source. Looks like they just stole a suggestion from Kyle and turned it into a rumor.
No this is a legit rumor. I heard it from reason last week.

There has been smoke out there about this. I will attest to that. No idea how imminent this would be, but it’s worth keeping an eye on, imo.

What I find interesting is that if Washington trades him after 6/1, it costs Miami about $15 million. Maybe. But then it gets Washington completely off the hook in 2025 for his $23mm cap hit.

I wonder what the deal would look like? Washington couldn’t realistically want much more than a pick swap and maybe eating some 2024 salary.

We see a lot of these as the years go by. Teams 'talk' about making a trade and sometimes it goes like this.

Washington GM: Hey Mike, we'll send you our DT for a first round pick.

Grier: If you'll pay 3/4s of his salary, we'll send you a 7th rounder.

Washington: But our player is great!

Grier: Then keep him.

(Click)

Then the Washington G.M. or Grier leaks that the teams have 'talked about a trade' to some really gullible reporter.

I could totally see this happening for a low level / unimportant pick swap and Washington eating 5-7mil of salary.

Miami gets a very good player for low money this year, still gets some rollover money, and Washington is off the hook for next year.

While I understand this, I am of the opinion that Grier conversations have been going that way less and less frequently recently.

If Washington doesn’t see Allen in their long-term plans…and the aforementioned smoke suggests they don’t, Miami could try to frame a win/win solution.

I think it would be more of a lose/lose.

We know for a fact that our costs are going up in future years due to extending and resigning our stars... and that we are probably going to be forced to let some of them walk.
Taking on a one year rental on a DT for 15.5m in cash this year would utterly wipe out our remaining cap space and hamstring our ability to keep other... younger players.

Even if Washington were willing to eat half of that 15.5m, we'd be left with a 30 year old DT slated to make 17m in 2025 when Sieler works for 10m/year.

We'd be renting an older player for one year and likely pissing off Sieler in the process. Remember how Hoard acted when we brought in a CB who made more than she did?

It's horrible economics and the type of move you make when your QB is 39 years old.

I'm pretty sure that Grier is smarter than that.

That’s really my entire point. I don’t believe Miami would pay most of that salary. I believe Washington would.

Also, FWIW, I still don’t believe X is entirely done with Miami.

I certainly hope that we are done with him.

...and as far as Washington goes, they really don't need to move one of their DTs. Moving out an expensive player might help their cap, but they aren't in poor cap shape really.
Sure... if a team offered them a high pick, they'd probably do it. I just don't think that team is us.
