In South Oz it's approx $9 Australian for a gallon at times, so in US Dollars approx $13.50.

True and it's the same in Europe...but a lot of it comes into play with distances and availability of multiple means of transportation such as trains, buses etc.

Here in the US our system is set up for car travel. Sure you have some trains, like in NYC the subway....and cities running buses...maybe if you consider downtown Miami having the Metro Rail....maybe you can park and ride? ....but...really like here in FL and out in California....you need a car period to get around.

Without a car it's really, really hard.
