Dolphins attempted to trade for Richard Sherman

Tankersley has a ways to go. We probably won't know very much on him this year. Despite being thin at CB he is inactive today.

Even if Tankersley shows something this year, I think corner could be the top pick. Looks like there are some good first round corners, plus you can never have enough of them. Of course, pass rusher has to be up there as well. Either San Diego has a great offensive line, or Miami may struggle getting to the quarterback this year.

One last point, I like Howard but we don't know if he's a number 1 guy yet either. This year will answer a lot of questions in terms of young talent. At least we know Gase will play young guys.

Luckily there's 2 lockdown guys in the draft next year.

Not to mention 2 elite FS prospects. Miami can bolster the secondary a lot next offseason.

Maybe 2 or 3 years ago this would have been a good move.

Maxwell wasn't as bad as people think. No doubt he's overpaid, but building a team is about acquiring talent, not cap space. I don't recall any free agent CB's this offseason that were significantly cheaper and better that Miami could have signed.

We can certainly to better than Byron Maxwell.

We need a CB,LB,DT and a DE so there are many routes we can go. IDK if we will be bad enough to land a top CB, 8-8 is possible if our offense performs.

I wonder what the compensation was. It it was a second round pick or lower, then we need to revisit and pull the trigger. He'd instantly come in and be our best defensive player (not just CB) and is an absolute ballhawk. This defense struggles to create turnovers.

I don't see any category where Sherman wouldn't drastically improve our defense.

Just don't know how much longevity we would get out of Sherman. He is a very good/great corner, but also plays with some great players in that secondary. Age, and cap hit aren't on our side either.

Makes me wonder how Seattle sees him with those trade rumors being out there since pre draft.

Who was better and cheaper than Maxwell this offseason? There were few starting CB's on the market this offseason, and the only decent ones got franchise tagged or were grossly overpaid in a thin CB market. We did draft a CB and we had Lippet in the plans, so its not like we did nothing.

I don't disagree strongly, but I think Adam Gase is worthy of adding 2-3 wins by himself.

An average head coach and yes, this is a 5-6 win team. Gase will get us 8-9 with an outside shot at 10 if we have great fortune during the gauntlet stretch.
