Hard Rock Stadium field condition updates

Negative...they play professional soccer in Seattle at CenturyLink Field which is FieldTurf...received a FIFA 2-star rating, validating the overall quality of the playing surface...

What "occasional" soccer games are you speaking of?

They also play soccer games at Foxboro and that is field turf as well.

It's friggin unacceptable!! I cannot believe the Dolphins allow this horseshit to continue. Just put in field turf and be done with it already. Jay a almost tore his ankle up and it's just a matter of time before we lose someone to a serious injury

Miami has to play at Baltimore now and their field is terrible too since for some odd reason they got rid of FieldTurf

I have never advocated Field Turf at our field before. I’ve played on it and coached on it. I love field turf, but not in blistering heat.

In the FL heat, it will be 130 degrees at field level - and maybe higher.

However, after today’s game, I give in. But it is only because our sideline is in the shade with the roof.

Get the turf. Stop fighting the unwinnable battle.

Someone is going to get seriously hurt.

Even the announcers kept talking about it and saying the field was the lead tackler of the game. Embarrassing.

Ajayi fell a few times and I cringed he was going down for good.
Luckily (?) he only fell and didn't get hurt, but you can tell he was frustrated.

I imagine nothing will get done this season and there is no guarantee anything will be done off season.
However, if a player gets a season ending injury, then it will have to be addressed.
It'd be nice to correct an obvious issue before it gets to that, but that's how things usually go.

I'm sure the head grounds keeper is well aware of the issue, but correctly the issue is gonna take some planning and some money.

And in 2 weeks, when we host the Raiders, the Hurricanes will have ripped it up again the night before during their game. Can't we figure out a schedule that doesn't include a college game and a professional game on the same field within 24 hours.

That game is gonna be on national TV too.

Let's hope the embarrassment will be bad enough to provoke a change.

Thought we had a retractable roof?

It's not really a roof, its more like a giant awning with a rectangular hole in the middle roughly the size of a football field.

I dont think it retracts at all (maybe it does), but if it does it doesnt enclose the entire stadium and doesnt retract enough to open the entire field, unless if the sun is directly overhead.

I used to take pride in how awesome our field looked, even when we shared it with the Marlins and had infield dirt on half the field, the sod always looked great.

Now it is a goat farm.

People here blaming out grounds keeper is surprising. I'm positive he doesn't have the final say on what to use. His job is to make it look the best. Ross needs to make the decision to get a different kind of field, not the groundskeeper.

It's tough to grow 'high traffic' grass in the shade. The new awning provides what the fans want not what the grass needs, 12-16 hours of sunlight daily.

The funniest part if Garfinkel tweeting out photos after applying a filter to them so the grass looks so lush and green. Sorry Tom, you can't fool the public on this one. Field is now being replaced for the 4TH TIME this season. Unreal.

BTW...Next time the field is played on is Nov 4th, Canes vs VT. Miami then plays the next night vs the Raiders on SNF. This could get ugly again.

Amsterdam Arena comes closest to our situation.
The stadium combines a retractable roof with a grass surface. This caused some problems in the beginning: the grass rolls would not grow in the shade of the open roof and had to be replaced up to four times a year.

Shortly after the opening, it turned out that the stadium design had not accounted for good grass growing conditions, and as a result the pitch had to get renewed up to 5 times a year. These problems were later resolved with the installation of innovative grass growing technology, consisting of a combination of lamps, wind turbines, and water sprinklers.

Maybe we should look overseas and get some pointers.
As from this week, the Amsterdam ArenA football field is officially ISO certified in accordance with the internationally recognized ISO standard 9001:2008. The Amsterdam ArenA - the home ground of Ajax and the largest stadium in The Netherlands - is the first stadium in the world to be awarded the ISO certificate for its football pitch.

Quality management system
As part of the quality management system, the Amsterdam ArenA continually monitors the quality of the grass pitch, applying advanced methods and specialized equipment. This involves measurements at regular intervals at nineteen predefined locations in the field, of factors such as shock absorption, energy restitution, soil temperature, soil moisture in the root zone and compression of the top layer. In addition, these tests measure, for instance, the length of the grass, ball roll, ball rebound, rotation resistance and root composition. The results of these tests are compared to the ‘standard’ the ArenA has set for itself. At present, natural grass is not yet subject to objectified quality standards. Any deviations that are observed relative to the ArenA standard will allow the groundsmen responsible for field maintenance to take targeted corrective action.
