A high school football player is getting a football scholarship despite the fact he can no longer play the game.

Matt Nader was one of the best high school football players in the state. In September, the Austin Westlake offensive lineman collapsed during a game and his heart stopped. He was revived, but can never play football again. University of Texas Head Football Coach Mac Brown still plans to honor a promise he made. Matt is still getting a full-ride to the 'longhorn' campus. He won't play football; he'll be a student coach

It's nice to know that not everyone is like Urban Meyer and takes away schollies from players like Linval Joseph when they find something better. Thanks for keeping some integrity in college football Mack.

Never heard about that. I doubt he's the only coach thats ever done it.

Kudos to Mack Bown.

Linval Joseph ended a whirlwind recruiting process when he signed with East Carolina in front of friends and family at Santa Fe High School.

Joseph, a 6-6, 325-pound defensive tackle, committed to UF before the season, but was caught by surprise when the Gators pulled their offer last month.

"They didn't even really contact me," said Joseph, who recorded 79 tackles, 10 sacks, and scored two touchdowns as a senior. "They called and said 'Our roster is full, we have what we need, I'm sorry you lost out."

Joseph heads to ECU where he will join former Raider Melvin Patterson, who just finished his freshman year with the Pirates. The team is coached by Skip Holtz, the son of legendary college coach Lou Holtz.

"At first, I'm looking to start," Joseph said. "I also want to graduate from East Carolina, and make it to the next level."

Dude, you're a trip. I can't wait for you to find the next absurd thing to throw at Meyer. There's no way possible you just made this parallel with Meyer and Joseph to Brown and this kid who can never play again :sidelol:
Good grief man, is that your idea of logic?

The point is, we all know how Meyer would have reacted, if he pulled a schollie on someone who could still play. The story is about keeping one's word, something Meyer doesn't do. I know as a Gator fan, you lack the skills to piece things together, but come on man...try a little.

I realize you're having a little trouble putting this together. I'll try to spell it out for you.

Taking a scholarship away from a kid who can still play, and was being recruited by other D1-A schools (including others in the SEC) is no big deal, for any school. Schools frequently extend more offers than they can give scholarships for. It's when you have a top recruiter, and a coach who wins the National Championship that you have that good problem of having to turn kids away.

None of which has a single common variable with this thread.
I needed a laugh tonight  Please keep making those great posts But, you might want to apologize to Don for derailing his thread.

Uh, no I know exactly what you're saying. The fact that you had to restate your argument only validates mine.
I haven't seen any other case where a guy has given an oral commitment and then have his schollie taken away. Maybe you can find me a couple cases, since it's 'no big deal'. Just because it's not a big deal in Gainesville, doesn't mean it's not a big deal everywhere else.

And why don't you let us know what you think Urban Meyer would do in a similar situation?

In some odd world where logic has ceased to exist, I'm sure that's true.

three-star offensive line prospect Brad Durham committed to Louisville in August, but learned on Friday that his scholarship offer was no longer available

Missouri running back William Anderson has seen offers from Nebraska, Missouri and Illinois pulled and now says that his only scholarship is from DIAA Northern Iowa. Will any other DI schools come back into the picture, or is Anderson going to be a Panther?

Three-star quarterback/safety (ranked No. 55 best quarterback in the country by Scout.com) Chris Whitney (6-3, 215, 4.65), from Philadelphia St. Joseph's Prep (Pa.), had scholarship offers from Rutgers and Temple, but those were pulled after they received other commitments.

Four weeks ago, four weeks before national signing day (Feb. 2), Bowden, 44-29 in six years as the Tigers head coach, had one of his assistant coaches call Northwest head coach Randy Trivers to rescind the scholarship offer Nelson had honored, reveled in, for seven months.

Justin Forsett, the current backup California Golden Bear running back who is 9th in the nation in Yards Per Game and 3rd in the nation in Yards Per Carry. He was actually initially slated to go to Notre Dame, but he was a backup plan just strung along until ND picked up commitments from Darius Walker and Justin Hoskins so he was without a school since it was so late in the process and not many schools had spots left for him. Luckily there was one at Cal and he got his chance... USC has done this on more than one occation with Michael Bumpus a WR who ended up at Washington State and Sekeli Faaeteete who signed with California. Both had offers which they accepted and verbally committed to USC, only to have these offers pulled at the last minute.

None of this matters in any imaginable way to this thread, though. It's ridiculous for you to have ever made that original post. It's premise was irrelevant to the topic at hand. Only someone completely devoid of reason could find that post pertinent to this thread.

And why don't you let us know what you think Urban Meyer would do in a similar situation?
I have no idea how Meyer would handle a similar situation, and I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Thanks for keeping some integrity in college football Mack.
Mack Brown being the same coach who did the exact same thing two years ago that you love to crucify Urban Meyer for. What is that? Being outspoken to the media for his team's right to get in a more important bowl game than people initially expected them to be in. The best part is that both coaches were proved to be right.

I'm done with you in this thread. Don, I apologize once again for contributing to the hijacking of your thread.
If you want to continue your hard on for Urban Meyer, do everyone a favor and start your own thread. There you can continue your obsession of the most evil man in America.

LOL, Too funny... I guess pulling scholarships NEVER happen FinsWin. LMAO. :sidelol:

Back on topic, what Mack Brown did do was nothing short of amazing. That was really a cool thing. Even if it takes just a LITTLE sting out of not being able to play football again.

No doubt. Giving up one scholarship isn't going to break any program, but it's still a huge gesture by Mack. It's nothing anyone can expect of a program, but does make you feel good about Texas with Brown. I know Texas, with Mack Brown, would be very near the top of where I'd want my son to play after this.
