Brinson: “The Dolphins Can Make A Run At The Playoffs”

We were a couple games away from the playoffs last year. We have better coaching and help in areas of concern so in my mind there's no doubt we're 2 games better. Playoffs!?!?!?!?!?!

We won't. I have a feeling it'll be Buffalo. Looks like injuries are hitting them and I suspect teams will be able to plan against Taylor more this season.

We could finish 9-7 and be in last. I wouldn't be terribly upset but I do believe teams will be able to contain Tyrod much better this year

If they want to win (especially in the AFC East) they are going to have to implement a new approach. It's something that Gase touched on early in the off-season. Never mind offensive schemes and defensive schemes. Line up on both sides of the ball and punch somebody in the mouth. Until they win trench play, we will always be average.

That's not to say that schemes are unimportant. The offense has to attack and keep the defense guessing. No more vanilla predictability. On defense...attack with the front 5 (5th guy being Alonso). The weak link is #2 DT but we do have some other options this year. Jason Jones at DT as well as Chris Jones.

The good news is as least Gase has recognized this theory. Bigger, faster stronger. We are running the wide 9 and plan to attack. RT said the offense wants to attack. It starts on the lines. We'll see how that works.

• From the time he entered the NFL in 2008 through the 2010 campaign, Jones tied for ninth in the league among defensive tackles with 12.5 total sacks.
• In 2010, Jones produced one of the most impressive campaigns by a defensive tackle during the “Titans era” (1999-present). His 12 tackles for loss ranked second among the Titans in that period, trailing only Kevin Carter’s 13 in 2001. His 26 quarterback pressures ranked seventh in the same timeframe.
• As a rookie in 2008, Jones’ five sacks ranked fourth in the NFL among all defensive tackles and was the top number among rookie defensive linemen.
• In a game against Pittsburgh during his rookie season (12/21/08), Jones recorded the best single-game sack total by a Titans player since 1993. He totaled 3.5 sacks, a half-sack shy of the franchise record and the most since William Fuller’s four sacks against Pittsburgh on Nov. 28, 1993. Jones also forced two fumbles against the Steelers.

We have been making a run at the playoffs pretty much every year, 7 or 8 wins is only a couple short. Not really going out on a limb here. Gase seems to have right attitude, and I agree with him, most of the league uses a short-pass based offense.

Anything is possible to start the year. Every year we start the season with high expectations and end up missing the playoffs and struggling at the end of the year.

Anything is possible but if the last 20 years is any indication of how its going to be then we will be out of playoff contention by midseason.

Us fans deserve a medal for sticking with this team for so long......

Then i see jet fans and all of a sudden i feel better about the dolphins.

Twenty years of mediocre to bad football is tough on fans so that is understandable.

As to a playoff run, it's possible. Lots of things have to fall Miami's way, but I think a big part will be the change in the coaching staff. If Adam Gase is as good as advertised this team could definitely make a run. I think the Dolphins have enough talent, but also recognize the AFC East is pretty loaded overall.

Here we go with the " 8-8 " guys . Before there has even been a preseason snap .

Ms Cleo would be proud of all your guesses guys

Ms cleo saw it all along in the last 20 years.....Ms cleo says this year is no different.

This is such an empty statement-- "make a run at the playoffs." What does that even mean? Finish 8-8 or 7-9 and miss the wildcard by a game or two? Wow, exciting! Let's have a repeat of 2013: win one of two against non-playoff teams, win and you're in. Oops, lost both of them. But they made a run at it. That was fun.

And how i wish we would make the playoffs again........Just one extra week of football is good enough for me. I will settle for a round one loss....Thats how bad its been in dolphinland for a while.

I'm positive that we will. The fact that Gase wants to run the same short pass based offense as Philbin/Lazor ran using mostly the same o-line that couldn't block under Philbin tells me that Miami could possibly go 0-6 or 1-5 in their Division. While Joseph is PROBABLY (possibly?) an upgrade over Coyle, any style of offense similar to what Philbin/Lazor ran will be the downfall of this team. It will be like every other year; Tannehill will get his yards by dinking-and-dunking up and down the field, but the lack of a strong running game (due to no strong o-line blocking) and poor pass protection (again) will keep them from sustaining drives in crunch time when games are on the line. The only positive I can imagine is that maybe the defense won't choke under Joseph at the end of games like under Coyle, but this positive is neutralized by the huge negative of Gase running another pathetic short pass based offense.

Bad post. We lose to the bills and jets because of our bad o line. Not cause dinking and dunking. In fact dinking and dunking is the best way to beat teams with strong defensive lines. You have no idea what offense Gase is going to run since he's known to change his offense mid season if he has to. Guess you don't remember CJ Anderson running all over us with 6 olinemen after they started the year with Peyton throwing all over everyone. Just admit you don't know what you're talking about

Gase has proven in this league that he is not stupid and has an ability to use his players strengths to gain success. I'm willing to see what happens.....but really what choice do I have. It is what it is so we might as well look forward to some football and not let our lives depend on it.
