Bust, Bust, Hit: Third Season's a Charm?

Why do you need to "gauge whether the Dolphins are ready to contend?"

Can't you just watch what will happen when the season starts? If your "gauge" or my "gauge" shows that they are not ready to contend how does this affect anything? Will they pick up other free agents if you deem that the ones they got may not perform well?

And the "we need to be critical and analyze the weaknesses so that we can turn them into strengths" comment makes absolutely no sense to me.

Remember you only wrote an article about the Phins. You being critical has absolutely no bearing on whether THEY turn weaknesses into strengths, unless of course, you are actually Parcells, Ireland or Sporano.

Take a step back and remember that you are only a fan.

Yes, at the end of the day we, the fans, do not make the decisions. But our opinions matter because they are backed by money- money that pays for tickets, merchandise and the existence of the Miami Dolphins.

Don't you think that the public outcry for a top-tier receiver had some input on Parcell's decision to give up two 2nd rounders for Marshall? That is highly uncharacteristic of his football philosophy and some external influence must have made him come to odds with his own standard. That is the power of a collective group of fans.

That is what FinHeaven is all about, otherwise why would we all be discussing things that we do not believe have at least the slightest chance of changing the fate of our team? Sure, most of it can be nonsense, but at the depths of these threads are the passion of a people pushing for a better Dolphins football team.

I took the Marshall signing as a clear indicator that Ireland has a much bigger voice in football decisions than people give him credit for.

It's time to be frank and honest. The Trifecta has not succeeded in improving the Miami Dolphins roster through free agency and trades. Their greatest success has come via the draft, which is a time-consuming means of bolstering a team. Nonetheless, the Dolphins have posted a 18-14 record under Bill Parcells and Company in their first two seasons at the helm. Hence, the Dolphins have played well, but not well enough to contend.

In their most aggressive pursuit of talent yet, the Dolphins went out and traded for WR Brandon Marshall, signed LB Karlos Dansby and signed G Richie Incognito this offseason. By DolFans standards, it is an impressive gesture and commitment on behalf of the front office; something that has not been seen in the last decade.

But despite the impressions these moves have made on the Fins faithful, the work of these players have yet to be seen in a Dolphins uniform. After all, was it not...

Reality is this FO took over a 1-15 team Id expect anything above that an improvment. It could take 4 or 5 yrs but anything less of playoffs after this year and next is hot seats. They deserve a 4-5 year plan after the significant improvments we've seen. A future Quarterback and a promising defense.....

You are missing the big picture. It does not matter how the front office succeeds; it only matters that they do succeed. A good way to judge the talent level of a team is to determine how many players from the Dolphins would make the roster of the 10th best team. I am confident that the number from the 2009 season is significantly higher than the number from the 2007 season.
