The move comes in conjunction with the team asking left tackle Damion McIntosh to take a significant pay cut or be released. McIntosh, who was due a roster bonus of $1.2 million next week and had a base salary of $2.3 million, was asked to take a pay cut to the minimum salary for a veteran with playing incentives. Overall, the Dolphins will save $3.5 million against the cap if they release McIntosh.
In another salary cap move, the Dolphins have reached a basic agreement with veteran defensive tackle Tim Bowens on a restructured contract, saving the team in excess of $2 million. The team has also finalized a restructure of wide receiver Chris Chambers' contract, saving $4 million against the cap.

Up to date:

Fiedler - $6.6 million
Williams - $1.3 million
Freeman - $3.3 million
Chris Chambers - $4 million
Bowens - $2 million

That so far is a total save of about $17.2 million. Which officially puts us UNDER the cap. Trading Surtain will save almost $5.5 million plus, we will get something out of McIntosh since he will either accept a pay cut just be cut. David Bowens might be gone also, so saving money was not that hard.
