trading up is impossible
This website and game thing would be genius if there were some changes made to it.
For example the model should "learn" based on the input that players are sending at it constantly as they play the game. It should adapt its computerized picks according to those inputs and global tendencies. Then in addition to being a game, it becomes an information gathering tool.
The whole trading down thing needs to be toned down considerably. The offers that it sends at the user should also be based on things that the model "learned" from users who proposed trade ups. A trade up offer initiated by the user should generally be accepted if the offer meets "chart" value, but the model should be able to learn from both unsuccessful as well as successful trade up proposals.
I think I like that the model doesn't allow you to take guys that are rated way below where you're picking but at the same time, it's too constricting at the moment. It needs to be tweaked. I found it a real problem that I wasn't allowed to take D.J. Hayden until a certain point in the Draft.
I had thought of them automatically aggregating mainstream mock drafts and top 100 boards to constantly update their system, but I like your information gathering system better. Someone with good coding experience should be able to do it pretty easily.
If someone were smart and had the money, they'd find the guy who made it (pretty easy on whois.com), offer him $500 or something relatively cheapish to buy the whole thing. Polish the interface, implement the tracking system, and establish a strong social media presence. Turn around in a year when the game is everywhere and sell or license it to ESPN, SI, etc. Look at how popular it is on this site and look at how popular it is in the NBA communities to share the results of the ESPN Trade Machine. You could put it everywhere and make some money doing so.
