NFL draftees are starting to sign in dribs and drabs around the league, with Patriots third-round pick Taylor Price, a former Ohio University receiver, agreeing to terms today.
It’s still very early in the process, but you still might find it interesting to learn Miami Dolphins first-rounder Jared Odrick is reportedly changing agents.
Odrick, the defensive end out of Penn State, recently dropped Denver-based agent Peter Schaffer of All Pro Sports & Entertainment, according to the Sports Business Journal. Odrick must wait to sign with another agent until five days pass following the submission of the termination letter.
Fullback Lousaka Polite is the only current Dolphin Schaffer represents.
It’s not like Odrick is going to hold out into training camp, so it’s not a huge issue which agent he selects. And the money and terms at the bottom of the first round are usually pretty standard based on the slotting system.
But it’s still a sign that Odrick must have been displeased with some aspect of his early professional career that he opted to make a switch.
As for the rest of the Dolphins draftees, seventh-rounder Chris McCoy and agent Chris Martin have begun preliminary talks with the team, I’m told. And it wouldn’t surprise me if fellow seventh-round LB Austin Spitler signed fairly soon.
But things are pretty quiet so far with the rest of this eight-man draft class.
