Gentlemen,

I finally took the plunge!! I dropped a pretty penny on 2 tix to the Jets @ Miami game on September 23rd this year. What can I say, the Hard Knocks buzz got the best of me. I'll be sitting in row 6 section 141 (40 yard line) with my wife behind the dolphins bench. Clearly, i am excited.

I was hoping you fellow Floridians as well as out of towners who make the treck into Ft Lauderdale could share some info with me. We plan on flying into Ft Lauderdale on the 22nd (Saturday) and staying near the stadium. After the game, i'd need to make my way to South beach, then i need accommodations for 3-4 days while in Miami. Can someone help me out with the following?

- Am i better off flying into Miami International? What's easiest to get in and out of considering i'll be heading straight to the stadium after landing, but i'll also be coming from Miami Beach upon departure.
- Where should i stay the night before the game? Preferably don't want to be in the same hotel as dirty sanchez and Tony.
- How will i get from the stadium (after the game) to South Beach? Is that going to cost me a fortune?
- Where do you recommend i stay once in Miami? My wife really wants to stay in/near Miami Beach. I was checking out the Sheraton 4 points as i have a corporate discount there... any other suggestions? Would love a view of the ocean.
- What is a must when we're there? Any restaurants/bars you recommend? Any hidden gems that I should check out?

Can't thank you enough for your help.

Miami International is a dump. Stay out of there unless you're flying Delta and just want to hit the Sky Club.

Fly into Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International. Much cheaper to fly into there. Plus, it's right on I-95 so it's easy to land, head to the rental car desk, and hit the Interstate Southbound.

If you want the whole Miami experience then by all means, spend the money. In my personal opinion, it's not worth it and I'm gonna steer you to stay at one of the Hyatts in Lauderdale just South of the airport.

But if you insist on staying in Miami then stay on South Beach. Stay at the Clevelander. It's the best hotel in all of Miami.

Restaurants....Joe's Stone Crab assuming they're in season. I think it runs until October but don't quote me on that. Prime 112 is a great steakhouse. Shula's is just over on Collins and there's always Nikki Beach that has the white beds and outdoor cabanas. I'd also recommend Versailles Cuban restaurant on Calle Ocho. Do some gambling at the Hard Rock Casino just North of Miami as well.

When we go to Miami games (from Jersey) we fly into Ft. Lauderdale and stay in Ft. Lauderdale. It was WAAAAAY better and easier than flying into Miami Int'l. Trust me, save yourself the stress and fly into Ft. Lauderdale. It is also close to the stadium.

As others have said, fly into Ft. Laud, it is way easier and closer to the stadium. If your willing to throw out some cash I'd recommend the Westin Collonade Hotel on Miracle Mile, right in the middle of nice part of Miami and fairly close to the beach altho it is a drive to the stadium. Miracle Mile has bunch of restaurants and shops real nice area and close drive to Merrick Park (upscale mall).

Unless you rent a car, to get from the stadium to South Beach area will cost atleast 100 bucs for a cab. It is a bit of a drive.

Flying into Fort Lauderdale is easier. It's not too far from the stadium.

Stay at whatever hotel you'll be at however long you're in Miami. If it's just a night, somewhere in South Beach would be a good experience for you. If you're there a few days, I'd recommend North Miami Beach (where I stay).

Rent a car.

The locals will have a better idea regarding the local spots to check out. I do my own touristy thing when I get there but it isn't for everyone.

Personally, I avoid that ****hole MIA at almost all costs, including encouraging people to come in to West Palm if I'm to pick them up.

You really need to rent a car.. it'll be a helluva lot cheaper and convenient in the long run. When I travel I usually rent sight unseen (prepaid and non-refundable) off Hotwire, usually at great savings on cars that turn out be from Hertz or Avis. Priceline works well also.

Personally I'd stay at the Westin Diplomat in Hallendale, a beautiful property right on the beach, close to the regentrified Hollywood broadwalk (one of my favorite places), and more or less a clear shot west to the stadium, and the Hard Rock... and of course south to South Beach.... and along the way, clothing-optional Haulover Beach, if wifey is so inclined.

Yep, fly into Lauderdale - I always do - did Miami once, only once - never again

I'm goin to to the Jets game and plan to hit Joes Crabs for the first time Saturday night.

I always leave the wife home and hit Tootsies the night before - if you want to hit a strip joint, that's one to consider.

Priceline is what I use for all of my trips. You can do the "name your own price" and nab a compact for about $18 per day. Can't beat that.

I booked my rental for Boston last month. Four days. Just over $100. 51% savings.

William Shatner will hook you up!

Tootsies right after the game is very convenient. And you'll typically get a discount of sorts if you bring your game ticket.

The girls there will do "extras" if the price is right.

Scarletts is my personal favorite. Several red heads working there to my liking.

And I'm a Hollywood Ale House regular after any South Florida sporting event. Chauncey's in Miramar shut down not too long ago which sucks. They always served the stiffest drinks in the great state of Florida.

Miami, Ft. Lauderdale or Palm Beach. Pick best price. Rent car. Have hotel arrangements/reservations well before you arrive. There are no longer any hotels or motels on the beach in Miami. Everything is condos and not available. The key is to rent a car. This way you can do as you like and go where you want. If you do not know the area, make sure the car has GPS or bring one with you. Stay on major roadways and do not get lost in Miami. Getting lost in Liberty City would not be good.

Note: There are Dolphin game packages available with transportation to the games. This is the best way to go. Hotel and transportation provided. Call the Dolphins ticket office. I think they can help you.

Just as everyone has said it's better to fly into Ft Lauderdale/Hollywood airport
I think that you being from Canada would love Hollywood Beach as this is Canada South.

It has a huge Canadian footprint including restaurants and businesses along a very impressive board walk on the beach.

Staying on the boardwalk would be your best bet and it's only a 10 minute drive from the airport.
As well as a very easy "STRAIGHT" drive south down to South Beach along A1A.

The Hard Rock casino on 441/st rd 7 is a very easy ride west from a1a to 441

You deserve an award.

I forget the name of the hotel we stayed at but it was right down the street from a Westin. One day we took a walk to the Westin and man that is a nice hotel. Thinking about staying there this year when we go for the Titans game.

Wow you guys rock. Lot's of good recos here... i'll probably be reaching out to a few of you through PM for more info.

Maybe even have a beer with a couple of you during the game. I'll be the guy pissing into Fireman Ed's hat.
