Michigan ahead of Florida how exactly?

I've made the same mistake, espn shows the rank the teams were when they played I believe
Thats what I was starting to think, but it shows Auburn at their current rank on FL's page and they were top 5 when we played them.(I thought?)

Im having a hard time deciphering the logistics of the BCS. I understand that it is supposed to be a mixture of the polls & calculation of strength of schedule. Somehow, the latter goes completly out the window when determining the BCS.

Lets just take a look at who they have played.

Michigan 2006 Schedule DATE OPPONENT RESULT/TIME
09/02VanderbiltW 27-7
09/09C MichiganW 41-17
09/16at #2 N DameW 47-21
09/23WisconsinW 27-13
09/30at MinnesotaW 28-14
10/07Mich StW 31-13
10/14at Penn StateW 17-10
10/21IowaW 20-6
10/28N'westernW 17-3
11/04Ball StW 34-26
11/11at IndianaW 34-3
11/18at #1 Ohio StL 42-39

So they beat Notre Dame and lose to the only other ranked team on their schedule in OSU, but somehow they are ranked ahead of Florida?

It is obvious who has played and beaten more ranked teams. I am clueless as to how ESPN and other places conclude that Michigan's schedule is stronger. IF the Gators win the SEC, and USC drops to Notre Dame tonight, I can not possibly see how anyone could suggest Michigan deserves the title shot over Florida. There can even be an argument that FL is as deserving as USC because they lost to an unranked team.

Not only has Florida played and beaten better teams than Michigan, but they may actually win their division unlike Michigan. IMO there is no argument to support Michigan in the BCS title game except the really lame one about the score of their previous bout with OSU. Which Michigan fans seem to blow out of proportion in every debate.

Im not totally pissed off that Michigan fans think they truly deserve a rematch. What I am pissed off about is the fact that we are sitting here forced to argue over who should be playing for the national championship, when a properly done playoff system would decide all of this for us.

NCAA has some of the most exciting football to watch, its just a damn shame that there are some stubborn *******s that refuse to give the fans what they want, and that is an undisputed national champion.
If Ohio State wins....you WILL have an undisputed National Champ

Not exactly. If OSU even gets to play Michigan again, I wouldnt call it undisputed. It should come down to USC or UF if USC loses their confrence game.

Ofcoarse though, the overhyped Wolverines will easily slide into 2nd if USC loses to UCLA. Even if Florida were to win the SEC, I really dont see the media darling Wolves sliding.

So honestly, IMO if OSU beats Michigan again for the national title, that is anything but "undisputed".

I would consider it undisputed if they were to beat USC though.

Ah this was correct. I went over to Auburn's schedule on ESPN and it shows the Gators being ranked #2 in that match up. Which at that time I am possitive that was their ranking in the BCS.

Florida has won a lot of close games, while Michigan has blown people away.

It's okay, Florida will have a chance to show Michigan who's boss in the Rose Bowl, as neither of them will end up in the National Championship game.

But what if USC were to be upset by UCLA and UF beats AK?

Who do you put in the National Title game?

Florida or Michigan?

this is what i hate about the bcs, all i hear is the announcers say, well the voters will be looking at these style points, style points who cares as long as you win the damn game, florida is a very defensive style football team, they manage the game and play hard defense, they are not going to blow out teams by 30+ points

ohio state and michigan have high flying offenses, and they are going to put up a lot of points

but come on do you think michigan would have only one loss if they were in the sec, how about ohio state, the sec is full of defensive teams that can shut down high flying offenses

plus why would michigan get another shot? i mean i imagine florida would love another shot at auburn too

it is a joke the bcs is terrible they need a playoff system, maybe something like the college basketball brackets

That's not true, if they end up playing Boise St for the title then there will still be quite a dispute. Ohio State is the best team, they deserve the championship, but they still have to earn it.

Rights to play OSU in BCS game:
1. UF
2. USC (Oregon St was a terrible loss)
3. Michigan (won the turnover battle 3-0 vs OSU and still lost. 500+ yards allowed)
4. LSU (should be 11-1 (Auburn was cheap loss) with the hardest road schedule ever)
5. Louisville

Boise St has zero chance of playing for the title

i wasn't clear, that's not my point, that was a bad example. i was trying to communicate that if OSU doesn't play the consensus #2 team people will dispute that they didn't have to beat the best contender (thus creating dispute from the team that was left out of the championship game) because team X would have beat them. ehhhh i'm tired.

Who would I put in? Gators obviously!

However, I'd bet money that the BCS would put in Michigan.

Either way, this whole idea is on two BIG ifs. IF UF beats AK, and IF USC loses to UCLA. I don't think either happens. After watching Ark and LSU, I have a little more optimism for the UF game, but man is McFadden AWESOME! That guy is a beast.

I think Michigan did have a similar schedule, and they came within 3 points if the #1 team in the country on the road.

Florida played a couple more 'powerhouse' teams but Michigan played a lot of 'Solid' teams.

The 23 point loss to OSU was window dressing, OSU was in control of that game from the time they tied it at 7 until the end. They had a double digit lead most of the game and Mich never had the ball w/ a chance to tie or take the lead in the 4th qtr.

Michigan played an incredibly soft sched, the Big 10 stinks this year and they struggled w/ alot of bad big 10 teams PLUS a bad MAC team. They beat an overrated ND team and an overrated Wisconsin team(Wisconsin is top 10 b/c they have feasted on the weak Big 10 teams- they don't ahve 1 quality win).
