Whether we like it or not this team is once again in rebuilding mode. Too many players getting paid high salaries and are not performing on the field. I love Wake but he is pretty much done. He just can no longer get to the QB and he is a liability against the run. Suh is taking up a lot of cap, and while he is a great player at his position he doesn't do enough to make game changing plays. Branch is an average player and his contract was just another blunder by the front office. Harris occasionally pressures the QB but like Wake is a liability against the run. Hayes while a solid player will most likely be moving on in 2018. The young DTs benefit from Suh getting double teamed. Phillips makes a great play now and then but many times he can gets negated by single blocks. Godchaux has played well at times but also benefits from the attention offenses pay to Suh. The linebackers are a mess. Alonso makes an occasional play but gets beat too often in the passing game and is not all that good against the run. Timmons is nearing the end of his career and seems like he would rather be elsewhere. The rest of the linebackers are not good enough to be starting. McDonald & Jones are solid against the run but liabilities defensing opposing passing games. Howard looks like at best a 3rd string CB and Tankersley looks like he could eventually become a solid #2. Bobby McCain is always wearing a huge target when he is on the field.
The offensive line is a complete mess. They can not open up holes for the running backs. They were a little better in pass protection today but there needs to be some major changes to that line going into 2018. QB is just a huge question mark right now.At RB,both Damien Williams and Kenyan Drake are 3rd down backs trying to masquerading as 3 down backs. Landry, Stills & Parker can be a solid receiving corps on a team with a decent O-Line, running game and QB. Which the Dolphins do not have this year. The Dolphins also need to seriously invest in a complete TE.
There will be a lot of changes to this roster going into 2018. So it is highly doubtful that this team will be competing for the playoffs anytime soon. How long will Ross stick with the current front office and coaching staff is another question.
