The NCAA sent a Notice of Allegations to the school last Friday, less than seven weeks since Ohio State self-reported Tressel's violation on March 8, virtually warp-speed for the governing body. As expected, the NCAA accused Tressel of ethical misconduct for failing to inform OSU officials of an e-mail tip he received that at least two of his current players were selling memorabilia to a local tattoo parlor owner and stated that Tressel "knowingly provided false information to the NCAA" by signing a compliance form last September stating he knew of no potential violations by his players. The letter also cites the school for using ineligible players last season.
The penalty for the latter is easy to predict: Ohio State will have to vacate its 11 regular-season wins from 2010 and presumably its Big Ten title. It should be off the hook for the Sugar Bowl because the NCAA reinstatement staff specifically cleared the players for that game (though the NCAA might contend it did so after being provided with false information).
As for Tressel, Ohio State will appear before the Committee on Infractions on Aug. 12 and make its case for why its self-imposed five-game suspension and $250,000 fine constitute sufficient punishment for the coach. However, past precedent for Bylaw 10.1 violations suggest the odds of Tressel keeping his job are slim.

Urban Meyer says to Ohio State "Ready for me yet?"

It doesn't get much worse than having the head coach being involved in the cover-up. The Sugar Bowl victory should be forfeited along with the other 11 games since they broke the rules to get there in the first place.

If Ohio St. is deemed with the "lack of institutional control" tag for this (which they should), I guarantee you the Buckeyes will have a whole new understanding on just what "full compliance" means when this is over with...

..and it couldn't happen to a better bunch..... unless it's Awbarn.

Bottom line... the NCAA has to quit turning the other way and pop OSU with lack of institutional control... which will prompt OSU to fire Jim Tressel.

If Boise State lacks institutional control, what the **** do you call what's going on at OSU...

The vest has resigned!!!
yes he has,i read that on yahoo....COLUMBUS, Ohio - Monday morning was not much of a holiday for national football media as news came out that Jim Tressel resigned as head coach of The Ohio State University. Luke Fickell will serve as the head coach for 2011-12 and a new head permanent head coach will be in place for the 2012 season.

This was on the Buckeye Grove website.

here's the thing, there were signs even before the whole selling incidents.

How is it that years ago Maurice Clarrett and Derrick Ross among other former players brought up allegations about the school and they go unnoticed? Yes all the players were bad character guys in bad financial standing probably looking to make a quick buck, but there were more than enough players claiming things.

How is it that when AJ Hawk was still a student he had $3000 worth of cash sitting around his apartment that got stolen? Do you really buy the excuse he just got all his checks in cash?

How about players like Ray Smalls and Donald Washington constantly getting themselves in trouble and being suspended only to never miss games?

There were signs, the NCAA just didn't care. And no they won't go after Urban Meyer. As good of a coach as Meyer is, they'll need a high character guy (the main reason Michigan hired Brady Hoke and not Les Miles)
